Three possible reasons:

1) Does she have money to buy people food? Some people do buy dog and cat food because they are very poor and cannot afford regular food.

2) Does she have an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia? Some people with eating disorders eat unusual things because they think they are lower in calories.

3) Some nutritional deficiencies cause people to crave odd things.

I'd probably not say anything unless you have some indication the behavior is continuing. Maybe it was a one time thing. I bet most people have been curious at one time or another and tried a piece of dog or cat food! If you see it again I would simply ask her why she is eating dog food. Try to be non-judgmental when you ask. She might need to see a doctor or need financial help. The dog food won't hurt a healthy person but there are some gross things in there people don't usually like to eat!

When I worked at an animal shelter, one staff member taste-tested every new food that was brought in. I don't know about Alpo, but some high quality pet foods have better ingredients in them than canned or processed foods for humans. I'm thinking California Natural dog food versus Puritan Irish stew. The dog food had better ingredients and was more expensive.
All that to say some ppl just like to snack on pet food :)

Is she fat? If not she might have some deficiencies that make you have abnormal cravings. As a child I used to eat my dogs bread... I am normal. I liked to do it because I knew if mom saw me she wouldn't approve. But as an adult it might be something that need further investigation. Talk to her.

ROFLOL Wow buddy!! I wouldn't have anything to do with someone like that for sure! I would set up a camera and record this strange behavior for later blackmail though. After you get your shot, send her packing!!! lol That's too funny.

Are you sure she's not pregnant?? Women can get some wicked weird cravings when they're pregnant. I know someone who craved Play-Dough (not kidding).

Maybe she's turning......was she bit by anything recently?!

Just make sure she doesn't start eating feces or road kill....she should be ok.

Well, it is important to talk to her about it seeing as it is dangerous. There is stuff in cat and dog food that people cannot eat. Not good for you!
