Your little baby can't get traction. A dogs foot has evolved over time to work on dirt, rocks, grass, etc., but not wood, marble, tile, etc. It's really not even normal to have a dog in the house! It's just because the poor buggers love humans that they put up with all this bullpucky. The little bugger could also have some hip trouble that makes him/her not care for the wood floor. You did not specify a certain type of dog, so I can't go into further detail there. Your dog loves you, no matter what you do or how you act. Repay the favor by making you baby as comfortable as conditions will permit.

Most dogs dont like wooden floors. They are slippery and the dogs feel as though they cant get a good stable grip especially if their nails are to long. If the nails are long it doesn't let the pad of the foot sit on the floor which if your dog is sensitive can cause pain because of the hard surface.

You may think the rugs are no different a feel to you as the wooden floors but to a dog it can be a different world.

You didn't say how old your dog is.
My dog started being afraid of our wood floors when he got older and developed cataracts in his eyes. We just put down runners so he could get from room to room. Make sure you put skid resistant backing on them or he will freak out and really be scared to even use the rugs if he slides all over the place.

Have you looked at the bottom of your dog's paws?
If they seem okay then your dog might have had a
terrible experience with wooden floors. Try sitting
near the floor on some carpet and hold your puppy.
Talk softly and occassionaly touch the floor. If
you keep calm and soothing the puppy might calm down. Could be the floor is too cold to the touch
for the puppy. Talk with your vet. Maybe there is
something else you could do. Good luck.

rifleman is right. It's like walking on the sheet of ice. I can see it by watching my dog. She has no problem walking on a wood floor but when she gets excited and tries to run, she always slips. Also my dog doesn't like to feel that coldness. I can't blame her since I wouldn't like it myself... walking on a cold slippery floor barefooted... Put some runner rugs for your dog.

The Dog Whisperer actually did an episode on that. I know that he basically put the dog on a leash and walked the dog from room to room in a calm and in control manner. You might want to check out his website for help on that issue.

Some dogs are afraid of different flooring or surfaces. Give him time and he will get used to it on his own. Try changing the lighting too a bit and maybe lighting the hallway more. Lots of praise and patience will help.

he probably just has a schema about them like maybe she thinks it's quick sand and she is going to sink if she steps on it and consider getting carpet or you should make a pathway of rugs to each room so she doesn't have to walk of the wood
