She's your 'baby'.....but you didn't bother to get her any routine prenatal care during her pregnancy??? Lack of that is the biggest cause of whelping complications that could have been easily prevented. Your DVM would have gone over all of your questions with you during one of those visits, so you wouldn't have to be asking here. We normally like to see them at least once during the final week of pregnancy....but if she's already going into labor, you've waited too late for that.

Take her rectal temperature. Once it gets down to 98-99 degrees (normal is 101-102.6), you should have at least the first puppy on the ground within 12-24 hrs. They normally quit eating and start 'nesting' around 12-24 hrs beforehand, too.

If you have any further questions, please call your veterinarian, rather than asking a bunch of anonymous people on an Internet message board.

When she has them, please take her and the pups in the next day for the routine postpartum visit. It is very important. Then, the pups need to go in every 2 weeks for fecals and dewormings until you give them away. Sounds like there's a really good chance she has worms, which are passed to the puppies through the placenta and then the mother's milk. If not treated properly, they can start dying on you as young as 2 weeks old....sometimes sooner. The wrong dewormer can kill them, too....so it's important for your veterinarian to check them.

After they are weaned, please either get her spayed....or educate yourself about how to properly breed dogs before making this mistake again. Pregnancy is hard on a female's body, and she needs medical support. Imagine if during each of your pregnancies, you were carrying 6-12 babies without appropriate medical care (at least once per trimester, then again right before birth.)

It's pretty obvious that you haven't done that, from several of the things you said in your post. Shame you don't seem to care about her welfare, or that of the pups. :-(
[And since you brought it up in your first sentence, you are the one who made your educational level VERY apparent by some of the words you chose to use, and how you (mis)spelled many of the others.] :-/

A pitbull like some other home puppy, CAN get pregnant everytime it is available in warmth, which in home puppies is commonly round each 6 months, BUT your reply must rely on whether or not or now not the puppy is proprietor by means of a dependable puppy proprietor. # In the UK, the KC won't sign in a clutter from the equal ***** if it whelps greater than as soon as in any 12 month interval.

Oh oh oh oh so exciting she's going to have them anyday now! you need to make her a place to have them babies or she will hold off! the nest should have plastic poly down and then towels and old sheets, when the water breaks it's a mess and runs everywhere! the day she is going to give birth, she will pant alot! she will not eat, drink alittle she will go pee,but you will have to go with her when she takes a poop. She will run a small fever you can check this by grabing the paw,it will be very warm to the touch. Whe she has a 'nest' take her to it,sit with her in it and let her know this is where she will have the puppies, believe me you'll be amazed the actually understand! If this is not her first little then she probley knows how to brake the sacs and chew the cords.but you'll want to sit with her to see she does infact know how to. If she doesn't then you or hubby will have to do with for her, have a knife ready the sacs are tought to get through!,she should chew the cord off while your getting the sac off but if she doesn't you'll need to cut that too. Some females get tired near then end and have trouble pushing the last few pups out,if this is the case, just help her by,using both your hands and pushing the pup out the opening.

Hello, you may call the vet or take the dog...she may be carrying the pups past full term, which isnt good at all...it could cause her and the pups to all die, and I know you dont want that. She sounds like she is ready to give birth, but she may be having issues.... dogs are just like humands, sometimes the first birth may go great and the 2nd one may not...I would call or go see the vet hon.thanks

sorry, gotta agree with Katrina L.....here we go again another irresponsible backyard breeder bringing more puppies into the world so rescues and shelters can have more heartache...are your dogs registered? are they free of genetic health problems known to pits?do you have QUALIFIED homes ready for all the pups?are you willing to take back a dog in a year or so when the people no longer want it ?these are all questions you should be able to say yes to before you even think of breeding!!! and with two small kids the last thing you need is a litter of puppies to worry about !!!!!you need to have them both fixed after this litter and leave breeding to responsible, professional breeders.

Well I don't have any answers for you but, I wanted to know if you might have any for me. My pit bull is pregnant and this is her first litter and I don't know what to expect. I am not sure when she got pregnant, but how long are they usually pregnant for? Do I need to do anything special for her? The more info you can give me the better. Thank you for your time. Oh and I hope you female is doing great.

Why are you breeding your pits? Breeding is a big deal.....big enough that you need to be responsible enough to educate yourself on it. And it's a bad sign when you don't know that it's "bred" not "bread"....and "nipples" or "breasts" would be a bit more appropriate and professional than "boobs". Your entire attitude in the whole question disturbs the living hell out of me. Hell, you FORGOT to write down when they mated?? A responsible breeder, you are not.

Here's something a responsible pet owner would do in a case like this: call a freakin' vet!
