i have an 87 ford bronco 2 with push button 4wd. the 4wd used to work but recently it has not been working, ive heard that the soleniod motor that engages the 4wd goes bad and if i fix that it will work again? correct ? or any other ideas?

Sounds like the motor on the transfer case. Try tapping it very lightly while having someone pushing the button. I have taken the motor apart and cleaned the brushes and fixing them, Its about $250 for a motor.

It could be that, but it could be the drive shaft that is with the 4x4. If your transmission is bad, then that has an effect on the 4x4 also. But you do have a older car, so you may have to do more then just the soleniod. Check out the entire system. And it may not work as beautiful as it did when new with some parts replaced.

It's probably the solenoid. You can take it out, plug in the wires and watch it for movement when the 4x4 button is pressed. Also check for voltage to the solenoid when the button is pressed.

we had an eddie baur bronco II and had to replace the solinoid a couple of times. It lasts for awhile.

Thats right. The switch and the selenoid do go bad. More likely the selenoid
