Yes, I agree, there are some very fine Christians in the world, who have performed great services to the peoples of the world, but there are many who are not such fine people, in fact, some of the nastiest arrogant folks you would never want to meet. The religion as a whole has a very long history of being oppressive of human rights. There are those who would love to see the U.S.A. become a Christian theocracy. No thank you!! We don't need another Taliban in this country. Add the fact that many people feel that the entire Christian philosophy itself is nothing more than ludicrous superstition and you might understand why some bad things are written about them. Check out the site below for some very intense and irreverent commentaries on religion (not just Christianity) and the effects it has had on people and the world. Be ready to watch, listen, comprehend, learn. Also, to cringe, wince, or flinch a little.

I see that someone has been through this page already and given every negative comment about Christianity a thumbs down. I expect hate mail if he views the website that I listed. Maybe if I'd said that bashing is because non-believers are selfish, evil and cowardly people who love the darkness and hate God, which is what a lot of Christians want to believe, I might have gotten a thumbs up. Christians love to put down others every bit as much as anyone else on the planet and love to be praised just as much as their God.

The reason: I just spoke to a 50 something year old man who is a staunch Christian. He told me that gays and lesbians have a disease that can be cured. He cited several Catholic based articles and websites that explain away homosexuality as an epidemic. I have gay friends who are far more christian than this man. That's why.

By the way, I don't believe in bashing anyone. So in my answer, don't think that I condone hatred of christians - I'm only trying to answer for some of those people who are compelled to pick apart christian fanaticism.

I think it's because so many outspoken Christians are living like hypocrites! I'm a Christian and very proud of it, however, sometimes I'm embarrassed by the judgemental claims by some of our fellow Christians or Christian leaders. Jesus was not judgemental, he said to the prostitute, go and sin no more. He didn't point a finger at her and condemn her in front of a crowd.....if some of our "Christians" would behave more like this, perhaps they would not ruit Christs reputation.

I believe you. But many Christians are not. And you know what they say about one bad apple. There are a lot of idiots on YA who need a good bashing!

The current social climate is one of severe tension between Christians and Muslims. There is thus considerable publicity, largely about the very worst aspects of both, and the media-worshipping public have latched onto those aspects. There is also the business of Catholic priests' inappropriate attentions toward minors. Then there are the Christian religions which send people to our homes and tell us what to believe. The fact is, most of what we hear about Christians just isn't good.

Now in my experience, the catchphrase of the Christian is 'I used to be like you - you'll come around'. Not a good way to reach out to people, I can tell you! But for those of you who can respect that I don't believe in the same stuff you do, I like you just fine.

There's a lot of religion-bashing now a days. Don't feel too left out. Simply go talk to your muslim bretheren about being hated and you'll feel a little better about really not getting it so badly.

Many Christians are really good, and then there are those who think that they are better than everyone else with very little if any tolerance. I say live and let live. Many of my family members are Christian, and they respect my religion, and I theirs. History has taught some Christians nothing.
Blessed Be

Unfortunately the good Christians here are shadowed by the hostile, intolerant ones who shove their beliefs on everyone.

Its the bad ones causing that themselves, and there seems to be more of those types on here. They are bringing down their religion as well as spoiling it for Christians who are ok.
