A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!
It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the
fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own
borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to
stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind
these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your
house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed
the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things
you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke
into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to
your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me
and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is
hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will
picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm
just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for
well, you know.....

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it
without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker.
Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?
Only in America ....
If you agree, pass it on. Share it even if you see the value of it as a good
simile.
If not, blow it off along with your future Social Security funds.

That is really a new way of looking at it. I agree with you on the fact that this is well put.But how many times here in America do we give understanding to people that have committed some kind of crime because they had a bad childhood? Or they have been abused by the system some how. Here in America we look at all the circumstances that have led this person to committ such a crime. Same is true of the immigrants that have come here. We look at them and feel their pain and understand that they have not been as lucky in life as we have and we open our hearts and our home. Some times these gesters are appreciated other times they are taken advantage of. I guess if I was abused as a person I might take the chance and break into a home that would care for me and my family better and then I would do my best to show that I apprecaited the hospitality and work for them cheaper than anyone else in the home and I would work harder than all the other residence that are there to show that I feel blessed to be given this new oppertunity. But how many house guests can we have? Now even though we understand why these people have broken into our home and our hearts go out to them and their family's we have to take a look at our own family's and see how they are being effected. Our sons and daughters arent being given the jobs or the allowance that they deserve because we have a house guest that does it cheaper. Now our own family is suffering the effects of a house that has been over run with the needs of this guest.

United States of America has the rights to do the best for its people. I agree with anything they do to keep this country with the system running, because is a good system. What I do not understand how a foreign person come here and try to put their own set of rules, that is ridiculous. There is one flag and that should be respected, one language that all need to speak, one law that need to be followed. I said...

And if you aren't really, really, nice about it, I'll make your life so miserable you'll have to get out ,in order to have a moments peace. I also have other friends and relatives and they'd be really good people for your neighbors too!

I guess until it hits your neighborhood, town or city...no one fully understands the impact. Not until it's their SS# that's in question, or they are the victim in an uninsured illegal accident, or have an illegal father leave the country with your baby and a host of other things ,will anyone ever understand the depth and bredth of this issue.

Well, on one hand, I think it's a mistake anymore to bank on Social Security being around by the time any of us get ready to retire...THAT bank's been robbed already...as far as the rest of it, we've been really stupid and complacent on dealing with illegal immigration for so many years....part of it is a philosophical issue, we have that whole 'give me your poor' thing going on,
and by golly, the rest of the world is more than happy to oblige.
UN-fortunately, the 21st century is here, now, and there's about 6 times as many people as there were in 1906, 100 years ago.
Numbers, numbers, and the churchies are still out there with the whole 'go forth and multiply' business, and people sure have been following that one! LOL

But, I think there does eventually come a time to ask where all of this is headed...I mean, right now, the lights are on, and we don't want to turn the immigration into a torches-and-pitchforks free-for-all, but at the same time, it wouldn't hurt to really sit down and think this one through, in my view.

I've been reading on this one for about a year now, and some of the numbers are pretty astounding...and certainly do account for some of the inability of our states to ever balance their budgets.
But, since that's part of their duties, as it were, looking at immigration in light of sustainability and long-term economic impact on the country at large is definitely a worthy topic to be on your city council's table...

Invalid comparison. The United States is a country, not a private residence. And a nation of immigrants, how soon we forget!

Factually, Americans are the worse offenders as far as welfare abuse is concerned. Something that can be fixed by legislating less generous welfare laws--you can't really blame the illegal immigrant for the fact that our welfare system is too generous. But you can do something about it by writing to your lawmakers. Don't whine if it changes for all of us, though!

Get American citizens to do those undesirable, low paying jobs and the illegals will have no work nor reason to come here. Common sense.

And forget the wall of shame; it will only serve to line some special interest group's pockets with money at the expense of the taxpayer. Illegal aliens have been coming here for years. They do the work Americans dislike for cut-rate wages, make a few buck and go home. Now it has become an issue really and truly because the White, middle-class American Protestant is afraid to become the... Minority.

If it is going to happen, its going to happen. Deal with it. This is a nation of immigrants. It is what has made us great.

Oh yeah! I almost forget. Let's sit back and see just how many big thumbs down this reply will get.

I was going to say "Only In America", you beat me to it. I see you point. I think Canada is a nice place, but I would never be able to get by with that there. If things keep going as they are, I am sure I will be seeking asylum in Canada. Since I was born and raised in America I will never be able to get welfare and probably not Social Security.

I've made this argument a few times too. It's good to see people are getting it. What the illegals are doing is just plain WRONG.

this has been posted everywhere on this site for the last several weeks. here's a thought, when you get an e mail, assume everyone else has gotten that e mail. go ahead, forward it to your friends, but please do not copy and paste it here, chances are 20 people already have. it gets old reading the same posts over and over, especially when it is from people who haven't kept themselves up to date on what is going on and just cut and paste freely.
