My female dog is dominant and marks territory just like a male when we are on walks. Do most dominant females do this?

I am guessing that your female dog is not spayed. Unspayed female dogs can be just as dominant as males and often more so. This is how the dog world term "B***" came to be used as an insult. She is marking her territory, same as a male dog would. Unspayed females will even someimes hump other dogs and objects. Getting her spayed would likely improve this as well as protect her from uterine and breast cancers.

male and female dogs can assume the alpha dog.
Your female has taken an alpha dog role. Yes this is very common and nothing to worry about.
This means it's the leader and want to express that to all others that come by.

By marking over another dogs spot, it show dominance over the previous dog.

I work with Rescue Groups of Retired Racing Greyhounds and Pitt Bulls.
Females in both have been known to do this.

Yes, that is a common thing for female dogs to do. Dogs are also naturally stimulated to eliminate when exercising or excited. So if she's having a great time in the yard sniffing away, she's going to have to go more than she would, say, chilling out inside the house. And where she's a puppy her bladder hasn't matured to it's full size yet either.

Both male and female dogs and cats are territorial. Dogs can be territorial within the pack. The female dog like her wild cousins could be saying hey boys I am here and ladies my turf

Many unspayed females will mark territory.
She is also advertising her breeding status to any dog who happens by the area that she has marked.

Was she spayed at a young age?She may not know she's a female-or this may be normal behavior for alpha females. We always had fixed females when we were kids, but I don't remember this behavior.
