I really love my ex and i want to be with him again but i'm so scared he's gonna hurt me again.I know i should talk with him about things but he'll probably just tell me what i want to hear or tell me that i shouldn't be with him then if i feel that way but that's not helpful.I know i probably shouldn't be with him if i have doubts but i really love himand i want to try again but i'm scared to take the risk,what would you do in my position?

I am in the same situation now. It is very hard for me not to want to be with, see my ex, and let go.
Listen, if nothing has changed, it will be the same. He and/or you need to make some serious effort and changes BEFORE you get back together. Otherwise, deja vu!
