get some baby bird feed from a store...you have to mx it with water & feed it to them with a hypodermic looking feeder.
make it slightly warm, not cold.

The scent thing is bogus, most birds can't smell much.

What you should do depends on what type of bird it is, and how old it is. But the best thing to do is probably put it back where it came from. If the parents are around, they will come and feed it. You trying to feed it would likely be a constant job, of feeding it every 20 minutes all day long. I think you should just put it back where it is and let nature take it's course, whatever that may be.

Call a vet, and they'll tell you what kind of food to feed it.. Its powdery and you mix it with water, and you feed it through a syringe.-- They might even give you some.
Chances are, the bird will die because they need their mother. Just make sure you keep him very warm! --I kept one I found for about a week once... but he was so tiny, he just couldnt pull through!

is it a newly hatched bird, or does it have feathers? Pet stores sell baby bird foods, but if its is very new you have little hope of it surviving. Birds fall out of the nest, and its sad but natural.

if you have never beed taught to feed a bird with a syringe then dont do it. birds have to holes down their throat; one to their lungs and one to their crop(stomach) and if you get the wrong one you will suffocate the bird, and if you feed too much then the crop will birst. if its too cold the crop will sour and get infected, ITs easy to kill a bird while hand feeding. the best thing to do is take it to a vet.

I hate to say it, but if you picked it up and got your scent on it, the best you can do is feed it to your cat. The mother will have nothing further to do with it.

In the future, please let Mother Nature take care of these things, OK? Interference by humans is almost always to the harm of the wild animal.
