Solar power, wind power, hydroelectric power, tidal power, and ethanol. Aside from ethanol, these are all sources of power that are completely inexhaustible in the timeframe of human existence. Ethanal, although it is an organic substance, does not depend on existing supplies in the Earth, but rather can be produced agriculturally.

This is a very difficult question to answer. At our present level of technology, the only answer is nuclear power (the safest and cleanest form of energy available). Hydroelectric and geothermal energy are excellent alternatives, but they simply aren't available everywhere. Wind, solar, and wave power are nice, but they aren't nearly efficient enough to produce a lot of power (the best we have now are only 8-12% efficient). We need better technology to use those. Ethanol is always mentioned, but won't work because it takes more energy to produce ethanol from corn than it would produce in power. It will make a good gasoline additive, though.

The first and greatest would be the sun. Solar energy if used correctly could provide most of the planet with unlimited energy.

Look to the wind. It is being used now in some countries to provide electric and people are selling the excess back to their governments.
