During this summer I noticed that the ones in my garden clung on to the underside of the branches until the rain stopped, then they flew on to the south facing wall on my house to dry off when the sun came out.
It was fascinating as I had never noticed this before.

They hide away clinging to the underside of cars and lorries, their little hair's breadth limbs holding on for dear life. Their proboscis grabbing hold of anything to keep them safe. That's why so many butterflies are covered in oil after it's been raining. It's true.

They tend to flock to local cinemas and bookshops...oh no, that's people isn't it?
No, butterflies tend to hang around with their mates at Natural History Museums, that sort of thing. Play a few hands of poker, sip beer etc.
