shows clips of them from the chest down. Seriously, how would you feel if you sat down to watch the news and there is your rump on TV?? Do they have to get permission from those people, or do they just pick them and film them?

Just to clarify, I was watching the Today show and they were doing something about obesity, and they just show people walking down the street but only from the chest down, of course, they were all overweight to go along with the segment.

I think you're all a little unfair to be criticising people because they're overweight. I know I'm technically not answering the question but neither are most of you.

Yes I am overweight but surely there's worse things I could be such as rude, obnoxious, ignorant, illiterate, liar, narrow minded but no apparently being fat is the ultimate sin, how shallow some people are. I'd rather be fat than an insulting person like some of you are with no respect or sympathy for others. Just like anorexia there are reasons behind people's eating patterns.

And no, they don't need to ask permission to film anyone if you don't see their faces as such.

They have to get permission. But the permission could be obtained like " Hi, want to be on the News?"

Some times they get footage though that they use slowed down images from and not haveing the head is the perfect excuse not to need permission, plus they can say they didn't shoot it if they got it from someone or some where else.

The camera adds weight,.. especially when they mess with programs to add weight on top of the camera adding weight, so the people they show do not look as big in reality and they may have to cut the head when useing programs to add weight because something would click in your head telling you the images looked unnatural/manipulated.

Probably they would feel an overwhelming wash of GUILT. It would also be a huge eye opener to those people who have "justified" their eating behavior. The truth will hit them hard and it won't feel good at all. But that would be the same for ANY person in ANY walk of life when the mirror is held up in the face of their overindulgence, be it food, drugs, shopping, etc.

They don't have to get permission if they don't show their face. First rule of journalistic first amendment...It's only slander or libel if it is UNtrue.

Haha, I've often wondered that. Fortunately, I'm not overweight, so I don't have to stress about it. But man, if you did see yourself, how embarrassing. Talk about motivation to get off your rear and do something.

I don't think they have to get permission because they're usually always in a public location. It would be equivalent to retail stores asking your permission to turn on the security camera.

Yes I have wondered. It must not be nice. I know I wouldn't want my rump on the news skinny or fat. and I'm sure if they were to ask the people for permission they would say no. so they probably don't ask. They probably consider it anonymous, because you cant see their faces.

That's just not right.

Hey, don't you know anything about TV shows? Ofcourse they're all scripted before they show it on TV to make their shots good. And those people who appeared are being paid and ofcourse they were asked for their permission, they might even signed documents or something stating something about they're appearance on TV. Just look at it this way, if I'm fat and ugly, would I be willing to appear on TV for nothing in return? Hell no ofcourse, it would be so embarrassing for me, see?... stay cool... c",)

LOL! Well I think even skinny people have something they hate about themselves....

If it's a butt-shot I can't imagine that you'd need permission. I think they just film them.
