No, this is not in the Koran or Qur'an. Head covering while praying is emphasised in the Bible and Koran, but hair is accepted as covering in the Bible.
The Qur'an also places a dress code upon its followers. " Women are required to cover all of their body, except face and hands"

Depending on which sect of Islam that is being followed the more stringent the rules which may also include covering of the face.

This is my understanding. I'm a Christian, but I have a sister that is a Muslim.

This is something that has been debated by Islamic scholars for quite some time. Some say yes and some say no. Many ppl think it's a personal choice.

‘O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed’ [al-Ahzaab 33:59] (qu'ran)
