it will only count towards one of our portions of fruit and veg a day? Why is this? I would have thought that if I make a smoothie comprised of 5 portions of different fruit, that this is still going to be 5 portions of fruit, regardless of whether its been blitzed or not! (not that I could drink a smoothie that big!!!) So, is the latter true? And if so, why?

wrong, if you have 5 pieces of fruit it counts as 5 portions, however you must liquidise the whole fruit (except the pips) to get the benefit.

You believe you think you understand the words I say, but what you don't realise is that what I said is not what you necessarily think I meant. Try reading Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there, the piece where she encounters Humpty Dumpty. Your observations are those of a 13 year old who decides to be stroppy, I wish I had such easy prey as you in Political opposition, I could eat you for breakfast. It does not say 100% pure water either but they will contain it, the same as beer does. The fruits they use are 100% unprocessed fruit, no added chemicals. What has the the fact that they also add other advertised flavours. I take it you failed English, if not I hope you teacher wasn't as stupid as you.

i think it works on the amount of fruit in the smoothie is the factor, the only thing i can think is that the fact it is liquid may affect the way the body processes the fruit however it says on my orange juice carton 500ml counts as a portion as fruit and this is not even smoothie

I think they are trying to encourage people to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables. You are probably right: take five different fruit and liquidise them should give you five portions. However the major constituents of commercial smoothies tend to be orange juice, which you should take only one portion of your five a day.

you heard wrong missy! the portions will still be the same as long as nothing is extracted and you drink it all down! otherwise what is the point of a fruit smoothie?

Well I drink Innocent Smoothies, and on the front of the carton it has a glass and says "= one of your 5 a day". I assumed it meant per glass, but maybe it does mean one a day... I hope it doesn't. Good Question by the way.
