I have read articles on the subject from time to time, and I am sure Google and Yahoo can give you recent references. The Taj Mahal is close to a polluting and industrial town (Agra) and the conservation problem is complex. I believe the Emperor's monument to his wife has to be closed down at certain times in order to minimize damage. You could e-mail the Indian Embassy in Washington for articles or the Indian Consulate nearest you. Seeing the Taj by moonlight is the aspiration of many.
