Oh I do Hope you get better. Best thing for a cold is lots of fluids, and rest.
I drink some Licorice Root tea. It taste sweet and it will help a sore throat.
I have included a small page with some remedies that might help, but I'd drink lots of fluids, rest, and take Vitamin C.
The page lists things like, Homeopathic medicines for sore throats, Coughs, Colds, Sinusitis, and Catarrh (Phlegm).
Now it lists the herbs natural name, so you might have some research to find the common name. Any good health food store should have these too.
Do get better, don't feel guilty about work. It will be there tomorrow.
Hope this helps, and get better!!

If you have fever you definately should not go back to work because that means whatever you have is contagious.
There really are not quick remedies other than fluids and rest. The more fluids you have the quicker your body will heal so drink tons of water, juice and tea. Avoid dairy because it will make your snot/mucus/junk thicker.
If you feel super guilty when you are home be sure to accomplish something like cleaning out your closet, or fill out your Christmas cards so you won't feel your whole day was a waste.
ANNNNND dont forget that as soon as you are well to get a new toothbrush. If not you will keep pushing germs back into your blood system!!!

The old saying goes "3 days coming, 3 days staying, 3 days going" So you need at least the rest of this week off. I wouldn't want you coming in to work giving me a cold. Mind you, the 3 days coming bit, you've already passed it round. Up to you then whether you stay home or go in. I know what I would do!!!! Oh and I would take paracetomol at regular intervals to keep temp down and drink water, hot lemon is soothing too, but not at the same time as taking paracetomol. Get well soon.

Another answerer hit on this, Zinc. When I get a cold I dose up on Vitamin C and B's and I use Zinc lozenges and the cold disappears more quickly.
About the work issue, as an employer I'd rather an employee not come to work and infect the entire staff. Get better and you'll be welcomed back. Show up sick and you'll be a pariah, as well you should be.
Feeling guilty (not too guilty) when your sick is a normal reaction. We're brought up to be productive and positive. Sickness is non productive, sometimes counter productive and negative.
Feel Better

Look, don`t worry about it. If your boss said don`t rush things, then DON`T push yourself so hard. Take it easy. You may just end things worse. Now, for the cold, I`ve heard that the best remedy is a nice tea of lemon and honey. Here are the steps to follow: 2 or 3 green lemons and 1 bottle of pure honey. You can get them in the market.
In a bowl, put 1 cup of water in medium temperature. Then put 2 to 3 tbps. of honey in the bowl. For last, 10 to 30 drops of lemon. Keep stirring it for 5 minutes or more until it is completely mixed. Drink it and then stay in bed. Good luck!

You feel guilty for having a cold? Silly woman. Get some Zicam nasal swabs, it is basically a zinc preparation and applying it inside the nose gets it into your blood stream quickest thru your nasal membranes. Zinc blocks viral replication, so the cold is shortened and you feel better faster. DO NOT GO TO WORK sick, you only spread the virus to everyone else there and that does no one any favors.

i feel horribly guilty when i miss school or work cause i'm sick, but you don't want to get anyone else sick!!! so i'd say stay home and watch movies and cuddle up in a comfortable place with some comfort food.. that always makes me feel better!!! just take it easy, and also if you're into herbal stuff try an herbal tea....

Yes, I feel guilty, too. It's not how I was raised! My parents went to work if they could barely walk. LOL
But, I know how much I hate it when sick people come to work and infect the rest of us.....so don't feel guilty and stay home one more day. You shouldn't be contagious by then.

Honey+Lemon with a couple of paracetamol is good. If you are on lates, get up reasonably early so you can clear your head before you go.
If you haven't had loads of sick days this year then why not have another?
