not in public schools, if the school does not feel that they can provide an education for the child they have to provide an alternative solution at their expense (including transportation). They probably won't tell you that. We had to fight with our school system here. Don't let them intimidate you, every child has a legal right to an education. Check in your area for other parents with autistic children. They may be able to put you in touch with someone who can help speed the process along. Good luck to you and the child!

If you live in the United States, autistic children (and adults) are covered by the American Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Basically, this says that services and opportunities cannot be denied a person on the grounds of their disability. This applies to recognized physical and mental disabilities, of which Autism is a part. This applies to all businesses and public institutions, so a school, be it public or private, falls under the pervue of this law.

If you do not live in the United States, research your country's laws regarding disabilities to see if it has similar provisions. Good luck!

The school CANNOT deny them services. The big problem is that a lot of the public schools still don't know how to handle special needs children. Look online in your area for schools that specialize in Autistic/special needs students.

It is not legal. However. There will be rural schools without as much funding that will not push it if say a parent doesn't want their child tested and labeled, or the child's education would cost them a lot of money and time, but the child gets passable grades.

No. The school district should provide services, I know of no legal grounds to deny it.

No.
Contact your school board.
It is required by law that autistic children be helped into main stream.
