If it's a younger dog, teething is the culprit. Give him lots of acceptable chew toys, and praise him when you see him chewing on 'em. When you catch him chewing on your things, discipline him. When our 7 month old lab/boxer mix gets after our shoes, we tap his muzzle with one and say, "NO!"
If he's an older dog and only chews things when you're gone, it's probably caused by anxiety. Discipline when you find things chewed up, but try and keep some noise going on in the house while you're absent. Keeping the tv or radio on for our dog seems to be helping.

Need more info - is this a young puppy who might be teething? If so, you need to keep a very close eye on the dog when you're home, tell him no consistently every time he chews something he's not supposed to and make sure he's got lots of things he can chew on. When you're not home, he needs to be kept in a crate for his own safety until he's old enough to not be chewing anymore. People recommend spraying Bitter Apple on things, but I've found that it doesn't work nearly as well with most dogs as training.

If he's a puppy, ¸he'll grow out of in...and you can't really do anything but prevention. Make sure he has chew toys to play with, do not leave anything chewable where he can reach, don't leave him unsupervised at all. I'm sure you noticed 30 seconds is enough time for them to ruin pretty much anything, when you leave home he should be in his kennel or in a safe area where he can't get into anything dangerous.
if this still isnt working and he still finds ways to get into trouble, your pet store should have some type of bitter apple spray or hot spray that you can get to spray on electric cords or whatever to stop your dog from chewing them...

Besides saying NO with authority you can try this stuff called Bitter sweet, they sell it at most pet shops. Just spray it on all items that are being chewed up. It has a real sour taste that most dogs despise.
You can also put beans in a can shake it vigorously when you catch the dog in action, then throw it in his/her direction (not to hit them but near them to scare them. These should work, they did for me, also have a toy so you can give it to them and praise them when they play with the toy. Good luck.

get a training ad... at petco or petsmart has all kinds of sprays..
1 is Best Behavior by Nature's Miracle-One spray of Best Behavior by Nature's Miracle is usually enough to stop unwanted pet behavior including chewing, scratching, biting, licking and going into restricted areas. One application of this non-toxic, biodegradable spray lasts up to 4 weeks. Safe around children and pets when used as directed. and they have alot more i think they have alot more in the store then online.. I know bitter apple is one too.
but u should also get his some bones and toys..

I have house rabbits so I have similiar issues, i havent found a sure bet yet. But i think many non-toxic deer deterrants should work. Best example is grinding up hot peppers in a blender, mixing the pulp with rubbing alcohol or even water in a spray bottle and spraying the extract on things you dont want them to chew...the smell should keep them from even trying...i have heard the same process for sour tastes and smells too...maybe lemons pureed....

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/chP70
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

some dogs don't mind bitter apple or cherry. i tried both and my pup licks it off... what works is clear deodorant, make sure it doesn't leave white residue (i need to clean most cables and furniture corners :( ...... my hubby got a training spray that deters pets from going to sprayed place but boy it smells awful. or leave your dog in xpen or puppy-proof room when alone or at night.
