Just doing a spot of decorating and am really stuck. I need to make a neat corner. Any info appreciated.

Forget the 45 degree angles and all of that. Unless the corner is perfect you will always have an open joint. Take one piece and run it into the wall. Take the other piece going into it and butt it against it using a scribe to follow the contour of the first trim. Then use a coping saw to cut that line and you will have a perfect corner every time. You will only be coping the one piece of trim. Nothing to it.

is it vinyl cove base you're trying to do if it is mark the back of the piece where it's going to turn that corner and from that mark on each side of mark about 1/4" that would give a 1/2" Grove that you will make with a sharp utility blade by shaving some vinyl of from the back side and then bend it or crease it

You can use a miter box which will cut the exact angle for both pieces so there won't be any mistakes.

miter box can help you out a lot.
i use it and no problems so far.
