Not really, but if they are sick and need something, they have access to every drug on the market except for narcotics. My doctor has his own pharmacy in his rural office and he can probably get whatever he wants.
I hospital nurse and have taken care of physicians I work with in the hospital for everything from kidney stones to broken hips and hemmorhoidectomies. One of the physicians I work with was having terrible back trouble and we had him in his hospital bed on a back board. He was in misery and getting ready to go home. He gave me his billfold full of money and credit cards and told me to gake whatever I needed to get his meds, and had me go to the pharmacy and get his medications which were pain pills and a muscle relaxant prescribed by another MD. They make excellent pts, but are mean personalities on the professional levels.

They can sort out their condition with regards to test etc but they cant prescribe for themselves, they have to get some other doctor to do it.
With regards to diagnosing and treating themselves and relatives, it is not against their ethical code but the majority would prefer that some other doctor to do it because they lose their objectivity.

I used to think that doctors were never ill because they could treat themselves however, I think that ethically, they cannot write prescriptions for themselves as this would be open to abuse. Each GP has their own GP, if you know what I mean.

Yes, but he may decide to seek a second opnion if his aliments are serious. It also depends on his speciality. A foot doctor probably would feel better going to an Ear, Nose and Throat dr. for serious vertigo for example.

Yes, they can. That's why many get into problems with addictions.
But it's the same with legal matters. Anyone who acts as their own lawyer (doctor), has a fool for a client.

Yes they can! .....and for there family although this is not necessarily ideal it is a right that doctors retain at this point in time. I think questions would be asked by the pharmacist if there were prescribing classified drugs.
