I have been eating alot (I mean alot!) of chocolate lately and have also been having frequent headaches. Is this a coincidence or are they related? Thanks in advance for the help!

YES!... chocolates do contain phenylethylamine that can trigger headaches, they can cause heartburn and they have some caffeine, but only a tiny amount....

Migraine headaches can be triggered by chocolate.
You can try cutting out the chocolate to see if it helps.
Migraines are usually accompanied by vision problems, like starry things in your eyes that don't move.
If you have those, you have migraine headaches.
Try a doctor, they have stuff now that stops the headache before it starts.

Chocolate is a well know trigger for headaches among migraine sufferers so it may well have the same effect in other people with a particular sensitivity. I suppose the sensitivity is likely to have been inherited but, since your sister has a slightly different set of genes, it is quite possible she is not affected in the same way.

The culprit may be phenylethylamine (PEA). PEA is the chemical in chocolate that may cause the blood vessels to expand and contract. However, it's also a natural mood enhancer, stress reliever and memory enhancer. So once again, it may have more good than bad for some people. The chocolate and headache connection is still unclear.

Chocolate is a trigger for migraines so that is a very good question. Many people with migraines have different triggers and different experiences with migraines

Some migraine sufferers have 'auras' they will see spots or the air will seem wavy, tunnel vision, certain smells. Intensity can also vary. But to answer your basic question,..I would have to say yes!

I think it could. Chocolate has fat in it, and than can slow down circulation, a little, maybe.

Also, caffeine is a blood vessel constrictor, that is how it takes away pain, by consticting the vessels near the site of the pain.

But maybe that can also cause pain, cause vessels need to be wide open to prevent head pain. And chocolate does have some caffeine.

Try some orange juice to clean out those pipes! Works for me. Gives energy, too.

Unless you are allergic to chocolate, it does not cause this. It is a good food with antioxidants.
