Oh my gosh NO! Thing about the Atkins is it has been around for 30 years. What I wish was dead and buried is people thinking this is a "fad" diet. It isn't. What it is, is a life style change.

I have been doing Atkins for nearly 2 years but go to a website where they are hundreds of people who have been on Atkins for years. One lady has been on Atkins since 1972 when it came out. Many others who after 10 years still going strong. Those with diabeties have their illness reversed. People with high cholesterol to suddenly be healthy. People who weighed 300+ pounds to now be a healthy normal weight and kept the weight off. I lost 50 pounds and have kept if off and love going to the closet and know anything in it will fit no matter what. I do not count carbs anymore and never had to count calories (on Atkins) as I am in maintainence. I just eat legal and until I am full. I do not eat low fat either and my cholesterol and blood pressure are perfect.

Nope the Atkins way of life is not dead. And Dr. Atkins didn't die because of this diet but due to a blow to the head when falling on the ice.

Shame on you sweetie poo for stating UNTRUTHS! I know for a fact that this is totally not true.

The Atkins diet was on the right track, but didn't go far enough. The "Glycemic Index Diet", which could be considered the "child" of the Atkins diet, is much better because it takes into consideration how fast certain types of food are digested - the Atkins diet doesn't do this. Also, the amount of fat allowed in the Atkins diet is probably not healthy, as meat (which contains fats) consumption is linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease, and certain forms of cancer, including colon cancer.

The good Dr is but unfortunately his diet didn't die and get buried with him. If you want to enter into an ongoing debate about the pros and cons of Atkins and other fad diets, pills and potions then come and visit Fat Club -- The Online Home for Recovering Porkers at www.recoveringporkers.com. The site is still under construction but will be up and running in a few days.

I certainly hope so. That was the worst diet that ever came on the market. I am old enough to remember when his books first came out in the 60's. A lot of people died from that diet. Acidosis is a very serious condition that is caused from excessive protein and fat. It also causes osteoporosis because the body tries to buffer all the acid (amino acid and fatty acid) because the blood PH must be maintained or you die. So, minerals are pulled from the bones to achieve that. Not a healthy diet at all. Those I have known who went on that diet are very obese now. The are so starved for carbohydrates they gorge when they go off the diet and what the lost on the diet they gained back twice when they went off the diet.

Absolutely not, there are many of us following Atkins, and more and more studies are confirming his findings.
