but that came from pet supplies plus...is it likely or unlikely that he could get intestinal parasites from this? I threw them out and cleaned the container, is there any over the counter meds to protect him just in case?

Even if he ate some of them, his stomach acids will get rid of them. They arn't the kind of worm paristites dogs get. They are just food worms, that somhow got into the bag either at the store or company before it was shipped to the store. It happens alot, believe it or not. Your dog will be just fine. But, you can always get a dewormer from the vet, to be sure. They are inexpensive. Or go to 1800petmeds.com and order it from there.

Being dog food, there is a high chance of contamination. It really depends on the bugs you found in the food. My dogs always eat bugs that they find around the house. Flies, wasps, and roaches are not harmful. They will die while being munched on or when they hit the acids in the stomach. Personally, I've never used over the counter medicines. When my dogs have worms, I purchase the medicine from the vet.

It sounds like weevils. Weevils can sometimes come from the store in packages of foods with grain in them, like your dog treats. They start out as little wormy like thing and then turn into dark colored flying beetles. They won't take up residence in your dogs intestines, in fact you probably eat weevils in some form everyday in the breads and cereals you eat. If you're worried your dog might have parasites from something else, take a fresh sample of his poop (in a ziploc baggy) to your vet and ask them to check it for parasites.

This is not the way any animal would get parasites. Those bugs are likely miller moths and their larvae...totally harmless. The dog won't mind, it won't hurt him and he might enjoy chasing the moths...OK, maybe that grosses you out, but buggy food won't hurt your pet.

don't worry about those bugs, they are just bonus snacks for your hound. Why worry about it, bugs are great compared to some of the other stuff your dog eats.

Could it have been preservative free food? Not sure about the parasite issue.
