Wash your hair with tea tree shampoo and comb through with tea tree conditioner everytime you wash your hair - lice stay still whilst your scalp is wet so they are easier to remove when wet. The tea tree also drives them out, and they should be gone after 2 weeks of this treatment. I find it is more effective than the head lice chemicals you can buy in chemists, as they don't always get rid of all the lice, whereas the tea tree method works, even though it does not achieve instant results.

when my kids were little i did all the lotions the trouble is the lice are rapidly becoming ammunne to them so on the advice of a chemist i bought a battery operated lice comb.as you comb the hair it sends a tiny charge not large enough for us to be hurt but large enough to kill thelice i did this for 4 days or the run to make sure i had all the hatched eggs then one a week or so there after to catch any strays.after so much heartache lice were never again a problem.and no telltale pong

Don't waste your money on expensive nit shampoo. Get a bottle of the cheapest conditioner you can find, apply it to your hair and comb it through loads. The nits/lice can't cling to the hair when it's that slippery so just get combed out.
This advice was given to me by NHS Direct and it worked for me. I'd tried the expensive stuff and it had burnt my neck, tried an electronic nit comb but found it difficult to use on myself.
I've never baby-say those pesky kids since :-)

Get a "nitty gritty" comb from your chemist. Expensive but you can push to get on prescription from GP (about £9 or £10).
It is FANTASTIC, removes lice, eggs and eggsacks, even from long hair. Use with conditioner to help.
Much better than chemicals which don't always work. Tea tree is good deterrent too.
My daughter can finally grow her hair long again!!

When i was young i had very long hair and my mom bought a product named Nix- you can find it almost anywhere and it works great. For really bad cases the doctor told my mom to use vaseline. Gross and greasy but just the trick because they can't survive in that goop. Good luck.

If the commercial preparations don't work, coat your hair with a jar of mayonnaise. Wear a shower cap or something and sleep in it. That should work just fine.
