Do you just have that one cockateil? I have a a cockateil and she use to lay eggs about every couple months. She would normally lay at least four. My problem was a little different though, she would lay on hers until I took them out!! For weeks!! I took her to the vet and they gave her a shot to control her hormone level. Is your cockateil laying eggs frequently? If so I would take her to the vet, because everytime she lays the eggs its stripping her little body of nutrients, and could eventually kill her. So get your baby some help!! :)

First of all they aren't Chickens who lay constantly. A bird such as yours has a "cycle" and at its time "might" lay or not. Also laying might only be one or two eggs in that cycle.

I have a Lory, who just laid her first egg in 11 years, and then no more.

Also, if the eggs aren't fertilized there is little to worry about. In my Lorys case the egg was HUGE, and in your case as well as any other a bird can become egg bound, which would be a serious issue.

If she isn't set up for breeding meaning the conditions are not quite right she knows this. It's a habit for her to sit for a couple of days. Also if she has no male she figures out that the egg isn't fertile anyway so she will stop sitting.

Do you have a male with her and a nest box if not than the eggs are not fertile and if you do not have the cage set for breeding than that can be a concern also.

Probably since your bird was raised by humans and not in an environment where it could see how a bird is supposed to behave, it hasn't learned what to do with an egg.
