What role did your granparents play on your spiritual development?

How are your parents playing a role on your child's development if any? If you have a chid?

My grandparents did not play much of a role. I was raised by my mom and Dad!

Oddly enough, they played no role whatsoever. My maternal grandmother was a lapsed Catholic and my maternal grandfather was a non-practicing Protestant. My paternal grandfather died when I was five and had been a disillusioned Catholic and my paternal grandmother was a Swedish Lutheran who never went to church as long as I knew her. My father is an atheist and my mother only went to church when I was under ten because we lived next to my Sunday School teacher and she thought it would be nice.

My grandparents played a serious role on my early spiritual development but I am afraid that I was a disappointment to them. They were Southern Baptist and were not happy when I converted to Catholicism. My parents were more accepting. My sons know my parents believe and do not fully practice. I cannot say what role this plays in their spiritual development if any.

My grandmother is almost 90 years old and is still playing a role in my spiritual development. She is very devoted to God and prays all the time. She loves Jesus so much and it shows.

My kids don't see my parents much but they are still a great influence in their lives. My mom is always giving them religious books to read and setting a good example of what being a Christian really is.

A warrior of several sorts: physical and spiritual and psychological. Not a Spartan, but more like one of those silent warriors who has to figure out how to get through life without causing the world to fall down around me and others. Life is struggle, and struggle is a sort of continuing war. I've also been told I'm an oracle, but I don't know anything about that!

My grandparents on my mom's side were alcoholics. I never got ANY teaching from them. As for my mother's foster parents, they considered themeselves catholics, but did not practice it properly.

My son's grandparents are catholics and go to church more than once a week. When I lived near them they would take my son to visit at their place often, and he went to church with them. I am an atheist, but I had no problem with it. I figure that I will let my son decide what path he wants to follow when he is older, and it's good to get a variety.

It was their love without condition, I always felt acceptance & warmth in thier presence. My maternal grandmother was a very saintly woman (not in a religious way), she always lended a hand to those in need. She had a difficult upbringing & still shone with such a bright inward light.
I grew up with an abusive father (my mom was also abused) so home was uncomfortable, I honestly feel that my grandmother was my salvation. Her humanitarianism was an example that I'd love to live up to.

My mom is the same to my daughter as my grandmother was to me, but my daughter isn't growing up with an abusive father...I had to leave my daughter's father because he was abusive. I stopped the cycle of abuse in my family.

My surviving grandparent, my grandfather, is a fundy now. I'm an atheist. We have some good natured discussions about it sometimes.
