Flaxseed

Claims, Benefits: Prevents heart disease and cancer.

Bottom Line: Flaxseed oil is heart-healthy because it contains alpha-linolenic acid. Flaxseed itself (ground or whole) also contains lignans, which may have antioxidant actions and may help protect against certain cancers, though this is far from certain. Skip flaxseed supplements, though.

flaxseed oil is wonderful for any part of your body! i even take a tablespoon a day! its really good for omega3 oils. BUT-- i really prefer to use olive oil or coconut oil on my hair. I dont wash my hair often, because its too thick, so when i know ill be washing my hair soon, i use olive oil (light). if i think i wont be washing in a while, i use cocnut. the best coconut brand is spectrum naturals. after i shower, i dry off, and still standing in the shower, i wring out my hair, fill my palm with oil and run my hands over my hair. i always do this with my hair split in 2 parts. you might have to experament with amounts and kind of oil. some oils look greasy in some hair, and some look glossy and rich. also, the amount you use also affects the end result. i dont use flaxseed on my hair (but i do on my skin) because it tends to look greasy and collect dust easily. email me using my avatar name at yahgoo, and maybe i can help you find something for your hair type, because i am a stylist. good luck!

The abundant omega-3 fatty acids in flaxseed oil have been shown to contribute to healthy hair growth (in fact, low levels of these acids may cause dry and lackluster locks). Hair problems exacerbated by psoriasis or eczema of the scalp may respond to the skin-revitalizing and anti-inflammatory actions of flaxseed oil as well. Similarly, the oil's EFAs work to nourish dry or brittle nails, stopping them from cracking or splitting.

I can tell you one thing that is excellent for hair (and a cheap alternative to conditioning treatments) is olive oil!

Key steps in the process are to put oil on DRY hair and make sure and put shampoo directly on hair BEFORE water when washing it off.

1) apply enough olive oil to DRY hair so it's completely covered
2) wrap in cling film and leave for as long as possible (approx 1 hour is good but 10 mins + will help or even overnight if poss)
3) to wash off, apply shampoo straight onto hair over the top of olive oil (need plenty of shampoo) and lather it up a lot - DON'T USE ANY WATER BEFORE SHAMPOO
4) wash off with water now
4) shampoo again

Note: if you don't add shampoo before water when removing, the olive oil it will stay in your hair and drip down your neck and face for days!

Hair is the external manifestation of how and what we eat. Daily hair vitamins and minerals are a good way to strengthen your hair and help it to grow but what you eat is equally importantt. As hair is 98% protein nutritionists advise you to eat a well balanced diet with healthy proteins and foods which are high in vit B,C,E,A, and K. Green Vegetables, beans, sunflower seeds, nuts and peas and peas are excellent.
