Hey people! I'm wanting to join the Marine Corps and Army. I'm gonna go to college first and earn a degree in something so that when I enter I'm immediatley an officer. I was wondering what jobs specifically are open to women in both branches? Also does anyone know if you have an option on what you eat? I need to know because I'm allergic to wheat. So no pizza, pasta, pancakes, burgers, cakes, you name it I probably can't eat it. Its a real pain. It's only in scandinavians. So yah any info would be very helpful. Thanks!

Infantry woman, nurse, doctor, artillery woman and weapons specialist are just some job reserved for ladies in the Military. You do not have choices on what to eat except when there is an opportunity just like when still in camp.

Yeah, i was in the army, and I was an Officer. Women can do almost any job, but for the most part they are administration officers. I was ran ragged in Iraq because I was the only Male officer in my unit, so I was the only one out with the Infantry. by the way, the guy who said infantry woman, there is no such job. Anyways, I was out on average 36 hour shifts in the city. I would come back for about 12 hours, then go back into Baghdad for another 36 hour shift. If joining is what you really want to do, go right ahead, just realize that you will serve in either Iraq or Afghanistan. The reason I am no longer in is because i was shot twice and blown up once. I have 3 purple hearts, and I never want to go back. On the convoy that my vehicle blew up on i was knocked out, and we lost 3 soldiers, 2 females driving a fuel truck and my gunner. It is a very sobering feeling. Make sure that you are ready for war if you really want to do that. Yes, you will be going, no way around it. We will be in Iraq until a minimum of 2010, and that is a best hope scenario. I wish you luck in whatever you decide.

First off, thanks for thinking of the various armed services. We always need good people.

Second, since you want to get your degree first, I recommend finding a college that offers ROTC. You can get the military to pay for your degree, get some military training, and then go in as a commissioned officer. As far as a degree choice, go with what you like. I can't recommend anything in that, since the military will send you to training in the field that they need you in. IF, however, you have decided to study law, you may become a lawyer or a Military Police officer, or if you study engineering, there are many more opportunities available to you.

Concerning the jobs available for women, unless the job is specifically a COMBAT job, you can sign up for it. You won't be able to be in the Infantry, for instance, but Military Police will be open.

The last question you raise is the toughest. You will be offered a variety of food choices, but they will be severely limited as you already know. The BEST person to ask that question to is your local recruiter. They have the most up-to-date regulations on things that will prevent you from joining the military.

Again, thanks for thinking of us, and good luck

Hmm, i dont know about the U.S but in many countries such medical conditions preclude you from joining the armed forces.

However most countries allow women to be in positions that arent directed solely towards combat, and try not to place women in direct combat situations. However many still serve in active areas as technicals or utilities (e.g. drivers)

Good luck though, i hope you get through.
