I've always wondered that. The answer is most likely 'yes' but i've never actually heard of anyone admitting to another person or myself about juicy details they "heard" from over the opposite side of the room lol.. anyone have stories of knowing people that actually have done this ? I guess if you were hearing impaired you'd be tempted to do so in compensation of not being able to hear... hrmmmmm.

My Uncle had very poor hearing, but I did not know he could lip read until he spilled the beans to my parents that i had lost my virginity at the age of 16. I asked how the hell he know that. Turns out he was in the room when I was on the phone to a friend of mine. I was whispering so I knew he could not hear what I was saying. Little did I know that he could read lips!!!! Got in major over that one!!!

I am hearing impaired and do lip read...I'm not totally deaf, but it is easier for me to watch someone's lips across the room and "See" what they are saying... You learn alot that way actually. Most of the time, people have no clue!

my friend is deaf, so i can lip read only a small amount.. because i cant sign! and he has many other deaf friends! its not that i eavesdrop! but if someone is giving out or "bitching" i think you are definitely more aware of peoples body language and facial expressions, sometimes it obvious that some is talking about you thats wen you want to "listen".. id never do it otherwise!.. i have asked my friend too! he said he doesn't either! ya have to fairly concentrate on someones lips.. (maybe I'm wrong)

I have a friend who knows sign language and one day she was walking through an airport and she saw two people signing and she became so engrossed in their conversation that she walked into a wall! They saw her and realized that she was eavesdropping on their conversation. They started laughing, asked if that's what she was doing. She started laughing, signed, "Yes, sorry."

What if a deaf mom and her deaf kids are out somewhere and some foul mouth lets rip, does she cover their eyes?

yes you can, but people tend to notice when you are staring hard at their lips when they arent even talking to you. it kinda gives it away.
