My daughter's father and I finally broke up and I am looking to get child support from him. It seems to be pretty hard. I had a court ordered petition that he pay and report his earnings but he hasn't so the court sends me checks for 68 cent. Help me find a low cost way to take him to court or some other kind of action.

Thanks.

Hi there!
First off you need to go to your local child support agency. Every town the size of a golf ball has them. You need to talk to your case worker. They will get the ball rolling on his lazy responses to report his earnings. You can help the ball rolling as well. Did either of you ever file a joint tax return? Do you have a copy of a paystub from the last job or current job that he has? Do you have an idea of who he is working for right now? If so do you have the telephone number and address? All and any of this information that you give to your case worker will help them investigate how much he needs to pay. Also most states who handle child support will show you how much it costs to have these things done. What's nice is the fact that yes you do have to pay, but they take it out of your child support payments. Example, It costs $240 for the state to do a court ordered child support case. They find in your favor that the father has to pay $360 a month for child support. His first check that he sends the state is for the $360. The state takes out the $240 that the court fees were charged. You get the balance. If the ex doesn't pay for 6 years(god forbid) the state doesn't go after you for those expenses. They only get those expenses when the ex pays his child support. Hopefully this helps!

If the court is already sending you checks, even for 68 cents, I am afraid you may be at the end of your rope. My ex-husband spent many years unemployed just to get out of paying. I think he must have thought that the obligation goes away when the child turns 18, because he suddenly got a job and now I am receiving checks from the court to recover the back child support. This won't seem helpful, but you may have to get used to the idea that you are on your own if he refuses to work. Make sure the paperwork is in place so that whenever he works, you get a check.

does he work? do you know where he works? report his info to the child support people. you do have to get him served first. that means someone has to take the court papers to HIM. i remember this happed with my sons dad his address was my moms house tho he had moved 4 hrs away. i gave them his knew addy but they sent to my moms anyway. therefore when he didn't show up in court the judge couldn't do anything. anyways he never came to a court date after that. i jsut got his info reported it and i get my money now

WELL I KNOW PLENTY OF WOMEN IN THIS SITUATION. YOU NEED TO GET HIM SERVED THAT WAY IT IS MANDATORY FOR HIM TO GO TO COURT. YOU ALSO NEED TO PROTEST. 68 CENTS CAN'T EVEN GET YOU THE CHEAPEST THING IN THE 99 CENTS STORE!!!
