Causal? Dressy? or Formal?
What are you "suppose" to wear. I know I could wear anything that I want but I see an lot of people in jeans these days which is a little underdress for me.
Any suggestions? Will be outside in NOV the 5th in Philadelphia area so it will be cold! Should I just wear a fancy coat and nice formal gloves??

I've been wondering about this too (we're taking ours the weekend after)

Like everybody has said, wear what you're comfortable in but look your best.

I also think it depends on the style of the pictures you get taken...I love the more photojournalistic style myself so I will probably wear nice jeans and a really cute shirt. Make sure you and your man kind of match try to coordinate. I may not go as far as wearing the same color shirt (although some pull this off quite nicely) But wear somthing that looks good together. Also I've been told to wear a solid color especially if you're outside. That way you two will stand out from the busy-ness of the background. lots of luck!

I was a wedding photographer's assistant and the engagement photos were my area. I always told the couple, "Wear semi-formal, in accordance with the weather, make sure you are comfortable, and make certain the clothes reflect you!" In other words, if a couple wants to wear jeans, then jeans it is! For cooler weather, how about a nice length of coat (hips), a turtle neck sweater showing through the opened top of the coat. If you are not normally fancy, then don't go fancy just for this! Be yourself! Just make sure it is semi-formal. Sort of evening wear meets casual. Congratulations, btw!

Think about what colors you look best in as well as what you are more comfortable. It is perfectly acceptable to wear jeans, but I think people forget to think about color. White can be difficult for a photographer on a bright sunny day, I personally would go with a bright splash of blue or green dress or shirt but not something with too much of a pattern. Solid colors or more subtle patterns work better. Springy sun dresses are a good way to be cute but not too dressy. It all depends on what kind of vibe you want to give. Good Luck!

Khaki Pants and a white shirt always looks nice. If you dont want to do jeans, that would be a bit more dressy. Or you could wear a skirt and a nice top and have your fiance wear dress pants and a button up shirt (no tie). You dont want the pic to be overly fancy. You want to save your best dress for the wedding day!

If its going to be cold shouldn't you take pictures inside?? I don't know about you but my nose gets cold and red and running.... you don't want your engagement pictures to be of you with this red nose? but if outside is final, def do the fancy coat, I don't know about the fancy gloves it might look like your trying too hard. Try to kinda match and loose the gloves besides don't you want to show your ring off??? In my engagment pictures I show my ring a lot. That is the fun of it. Good luck it at all possible try to go inside for some pictures so your face doesn't look likes its COLD outside!!!

I would wear a great pair of black or charcoal pants with boots with a heel and a nice ivory colored sweater. Of course, a nice coat would be nice but leave the gloves off because you want to show off your engagement ring.

I agree with you about the jeans, too casual, but to each his own!

Wear semi-formal attire, something that show who you are and reflects who you are and your interests. NO JEANS! Dress like you would going to an office building. No coats or gloves. Scarf is OK. Good luck and congrats.

It's a personal choice. I think you should dress how you LIKE to dress. I've seen couples in the newspaper dressed in jeans, it's not really tacky, if it's their thing.

The nice coat & gloves sounds nice, could be very elegant looking.

Good luck & congrats on your upcoming wedding!

That's fine. It's really about your personality. You can do a formal shot or you can do something like playing in leaves, or a playground, or a little touch football. You don't have to go the traditional route unless you want to. Just have fun.
