You need to go online: www.consulfrance-londres.org (is the UK site). This will give you all the information you need, do not just go there the consulate will not see you without a visa appointment.
When I go to France I prefer to use the visa companies(Visa Express, Global Visa,etc, there are plenty) It saves you standing at the consulate all day.

I would also recommend to find the address of the "Maison de la France" in London. They are the french tourist office in London and will be able to give you all info and brochures you need

just go there it is open only in the morning;if they are not busy they may take you on the spot
