i have several tatto's
if your really worried about the pain you can buy a cream from the chemist. its common name is magic cream. they'll know what you mean when you ask for it.
it numbs the skin so you cant feel the pain,
just a word of advice tho...........do not under any circumstances have a few drinks before you get it done. its actually very irresponsible to do so. and if your tattooist is reputable he or she will never tattoo a person who has been drinking
hope this helps

Yeah I would suggest that you NOT have a few drinks before you go. Number One Alcohol thins your blood, the ink would not go deep into your skin as it should because it the blood would force it back out. Also, if a tattoo artist knows you are under the influence, legally they cannot touch you. (At least in some parts of the U.S.) It this is your first tatt, make sure you eat before you go, something with lots of protien, like a Peanut butter sandwich, or Fish. This will help you not feel as nauseated if you are worried about the needles. The outline is the worst part as it is a constant drill on your skin, the color or fill in goes way faster and it does not hurt at all....mostly because you become numb from the outline! I have a tatt in the middle of the small of my back of a sun and moon connected and kissing, 4 little stars at random around it.(that is the most painful place to get one actually because it is right on the spine, the center of your nervous system.) If you are the kind to like pain in that way....um...I plead the 5th ammendment...then it can actually be quite pleasant. I want to get another with my daughter and sons name incorporated in it. But I am having a hard time deciding what exactly to get. I do know where I want it though.

Oh and Bridget...ROCK ON GIRL!!

Hey I understand you are scared so was I and now I have 3 tats and want another. I am not going to lie it depends where you get it . Some parts will hurt more than others but the pain does not last long. Look at it this way when the tat is done it will look great. I know once mine were finished and heal I was proud to show them off so just do it you will be happy in the end. Believe me when you are done you will want more and wount even think of the pain. Good Luck

You don't really see much of the needle. I have tattoos and the initial sound of the gun when I got my first was more frightening. After your first tattoo, all the other ones aren't bad because you know what to expect.
You'll be fine if you just relax and listen to the instructions given to you by the artist. True professionals make all tattoos a breeze and I'm sure you'll be happy once its done, so just think of the end result when you are getting it done.

Just remember that you will have it there forever and all though you have your reasoning's for wanting one on your hand I suggest getting it elsewhere. It sounds like this is your first tattoo. The pain is different for everyone but the person above is right you really don't see the needle unless you are really looking. And since it is on your hand they will probably use a single needle and the less needles they use the more painful it is! I say get it somewhere else and start there. The hand is sensitive and a tattoo will wear differently there and will most likely fade on that part of your hand. You will probably have to get it retouched over the years.

It probably won't hurt that much as that area is only skin. Just look away and hold a friends hand if you are worried about needles.

My ex was covered in tats, but he told me he was afraid of needles (couldn't get any piercings because he was so afraid), I laughed, but he said its completely different because he doesn't think of the gun as needles, and besides after a bit of pain, you've got a great tattoo. Good luck.

In some places you can pay a bit extra and they use an anaesthetic wipe which numbs the skin so you don't feel it as much. You don't have too look either! Best bet is to take a friend with you who you can talk to while it is being done. It sounds like it is going to be small so it won't take long either prob 2-3 minutes.

having a tatto on your hand is a bad idea. you will GREATLY limit yourself in finding a career. as for the pain, my boyfriend had a terrible fear of needles, and he got a tattoo 3 months ago and agreed that it wasn't so bad. the thing to remember is that tattoos and needles are DIFFERENT! getting a tattoo feels NOTHING like getting a needle, so just because you hate needles doesn't mean you'll hate getting tattooed

Its not as painful as you are building it up to be. If you are having it between your thumb and finger I assume its not going to be very big anyway. Will probably be done in 10 minutes. Its just a scratching feeling and once the initial part is done, you go numb so you cant feel anything anyway. Just try and think of something else and remember to breath or you will pass out!
