Bruichladdich is a north Islay Malt.
Islays are held in high esteem by whisky drinkers as they have a distinct smoky/peaty nose and smoky aftertaste which is amazing. :)
Bruichladdich is from the north and so is less smoky that its southern counterparts like Lagavulin and Ardbeg. It has a milder flavour and so is easier to driink. Try it, its amazing.

Hope that helps.

The 1972 Bruichladdich that you have is actually part of the "Legacy Series" of Single Malt Scotches in the Bruchladdich line. It is officially called "Legacy 4" (see first link below for a picture to confirm)

I have included the link to the official tasting notes below and I will give a brief description below.

Palate: "The richness of the spirit is beautiful, layering the palate with the intense waves of aromas experienced by the olfactory senses. It’s sublimely sweet, fruity & oaky, confident that time has added the magic that few malts can achieve."

The price would be about $208.58 USD if you could still find one in Europe. (Last link)

If I were you I would consult the latest Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion for full notes. I've only got the fourth edition which was published before your malt was bottled.

A few extracts:

Pronounced "Brook Laddie"
House style: Light to medium, firm, hint of passion fruit, salty. Very drinkable. Aperitif.

For all the various types of Bruichladdich, Jackson scores them between 76 to 79 out of 100.
