I have a 7 month old Beagle (rescue dog actually) I take him for walks throughout the day amounting to aproxminatley 3 hours each day excluding training and playing time. Is this enough for him or should he be excerised more? He is quite well behaved but very destructive at times

You're giving this puppy plenty of exercise! He's destructive at times because he's only 7 months old - you just need some patience right now until he grows up. At this age you might have to leave him in either a crate or an exercise pen when you're not home. Put a few toys and a couple of treats in it and he'll be fine.

You've got to keep a beagle busy. Give him plenty attention, long walks, an outside area to run in, other dogs to romp with, and lots of toys. A worn out beagle is a well behaved beagle.

First let me congratulate you on bring home a rescue (wish there were more people like you).

It sounds like you are giving your dog plenty of exercise. How old is the dog? He may have separation anxiety, does this happen when you leave him alone?

You may want to crate him if you aren't home to curb his destructive behavior. There isn't anything wrong with crating a dog (for short periods of time) to prevent injury to the dog (and your home).

If this doesn't help you can call the local animal rescues or humane society. They usually have animal behaviorists who would be able to help you with your problem.

The best of luck to you, don't give up!

Three hours of excersize and play should be plenty for any dog. He's still a pup and will probably be a bit destructive till He's about a year old.Give him some time and enjoy the best friend that you will ever have in your life.

When you take him for walks get a little backpack and put on him and weigh it slightly down with something, it helps.
