gulls mainly come further inland during rough seas. as its harder to get food from the sea during these times, they then come inland to see what they get instead. if you had the choice to go under a massive wave for a fish... or simply go inland and get all u can eat at the local tip/waste area... what would you choose!? lol..

hope this helps. x

Funny, but somewhat inaccurate: Some Gulls never see the ocean, they breed and live on inland lakes, they come into the cities to scavenge food, AND of course, seek out your car at Wally World. I believe they gain much joy in ruining a wax job. LOL .

seagulls fly inland from coastal areas in search of food. They gather in places that have an abundance of food or trash, areas like fast food and mall parking lots and garbage dumpsters. seagulls actually thrive on our trash, and when they find a place where there's plenty of trash, food it their case, they stay put, make nests and lay eggs in those areas. Their offspring then live off the garbage as well.

Weather and food supply. Gulls do not live exclusively on rubbish - hasn't anyone ever see a flock of gulls following a plough?
I read somewhere that gulls are gradually colonising all areas of the world inland. They are just adapting to survive. After all we have eaten nearly all the fish.

It depends which of the many species of gulls you are talking about. Some, like Franklin's and California Gulls, live inland. Other's, like kittiwakes and Sabine's Gulls spend most of their time far out at sea. I would imagine most gulls fly inland to feed.

they were originally called sea gulls as they kept around the coast as that is where they fed, however with the ever growing problem of trash, they have learned it is easier to come inland and get fed.
