Has the United Kingdom ever built a military base on Iceland which was then destroyed by British ships rather than turn the facilities over to the Icelandic govervnment?

Not to my knowledge. It is quite possible, though. Prior to the U.S. military installation at Keflavik, the nation was a territory of Denmark, which was an ally of the British during WW2. So, that is why it is quite possible that the British military may have done such a thing.

Also, the U.S. military hosted foreign military battalions for joint NATO training exercises. So, the British have been to Iceland even after WW2.

I lived their for about 2 1/2 yrs. I don't ever recall any mention of it, but like I said . . . . . it is possible.

I would suggest asking a military history professor, with an expertise in WW2 history in the North Atlantic. That person would know for sure.

Its no the British navy...it's the Royal Navy and as far as i know no
