Yeah it is safe. I also have alopecia and my consultant told me that this comes from within - not from what you put on the hair. I lighten my hair as it notices less but theres no reason why you shouldnt henna yours. Do a little patch test first just to make sure it wont irritate the skin. Good luck and look pretty xxx

Hi,
There are many factors that can attribute to hair recession or massive hair fall and you need to find out which one exactly is responsible for the problem you are having now. Of course male pattern baldness is still the most common cause, but, for instance, if you are a woman things are deinitely different! This is the reason why you will need to really dig down and see the source of your problem.
Other causes of hair loss may include (both in men and women): severe mental or emotional stress, excessive use of coloring or bleaching agents, traction alopecia or excessive strain on the scalp due to braiding or corn rowing, hormonal changes, alopecia areata or hair loss due to autoimmune diseases, and many more. Each of these conditions will require a different approach in order to achieve success regardless of whether you're going to be using conventional or natural methods.
In my opinion it's much better to use natural methods as opposed to conventional ones, they're cheaper, have less to no side effects, and often more effective.
A good way of regaining your full head of healthy natural hair is well described on this guide: http://hairagain.toptips.org

Given below is a mixture of essential oils, which would help hair growth and stop hair fall:
1. Thyme oil -
2 drops2. Atlas cedar wood oil - 2 drops
3. Lavender oil -3 drops
4. Rosemary oil -3 drops
5. Jojoba oil - ½ teaspoon
6. Grape seed oil - 3 teaspoons
Add the above essential oils in a jar and mix it thoroughly. Apply the oil in your scalp and massage with your finger tips every night and cover your head with a warm towel for some minutes. The above remedy helps people with thinning hair and excessive hair fall as it promotes new hair growth. While washing your hair rub the scalp gently.Warning: If a person is suffering from high blood pressure, it is advised not to use rosemary oil.

Henna should be OK but watch you don't stain your scalp too badly.
I think that its metallic dyes that cause scalp irritation mainly and that I believe is mostly the permanent or semi perm ones.
Daniel Field used to do a very good water based hair dye 6 - 12 washes I think. Maybe have a look for that?
Happy dyeing!

I would ask your physician. I also want to tell you that I had several "episodes" of alopecia myself, so I know how devastating this is. I'm sorry you are going through this. I used to take a pencil eye liner (they come in a variety of colors) and fill in the bald spot to make it less noticeable. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

henna is not a dye. the henna dye is not natural. Original henna powder(greenish) can be used. If u mix it with diif. mixes it will give diff. colors.

typically, henna (metallic based hair color) will react to steroids.
don't do it.
metal reacts to most medications. it is drying and this could be the cause of your alopecia areata.
did you start coloring before the alopecia got that bad?

a) Talk to your doctor about why you have patches - he may need to prescribe something.
b) Always do the recommended skin test to be doubly sure.
