And now that you're older, you can make your own choices about what you eat, how much and when and what kind of physical activity to do to maintain good health.
My mother never made anything that didn't come out of a can, a cardboard box, plastic freezer bag or an envelope (instant mashed potates! You just added water.) I didn't know what a green bean really looked like until I was in my 20s (honest!).
I cook from fresh produce, make most stuff from scratch and my daughter can hold her own in the kitchen (she makes great omelets, chocolate chip cookies and stir fry).
I would never force her or anyone else to eat; what I do ask is that she serve herself what she thinks she can or will eat. Better to take too little and have a second helping than throw away half a plateful of food! So that's my hang up. Waste not, want not.

Yes, my mother and father always made me clean my plate even though I was full and wanted to stop eating. This mentality has carried over into my adult life and unfortunately I am now an overweight diabetic who has a problem getting up from the table when I am full. Recently I had to change my entire life style and learn that leaving some food on my plate is OK. Eating food just to clean your plate is not only wrong but dangerous to your health and can cause serious problems including an early death from heart disease, diabetes and many other ailments.

I couldn't leave the table until I cleaned my plate and drank my milk. I was an obese child and my mother thought that was healthy. It wasn't until I learned about nutrition that I was able to maintain a healthy weight. Now my BMI is 20.5 because I eat right a exercise regularly. I am also a nutritionist and enjoy helping others with their weight problems.

Yeah, she did.
Somebody, one of my siblings had helped themselves to some rum cake and she thought it was me ( yep, I did steal a little food when I could from the cupboard) I hated rumcake but as she was convinced it was me who stole the cake and she made me eat it the whole lot. One tiniest bite made me gag. Four hours later I was still trying to force this cake down my neck, and had been physically sick trying to swallow it, a crumb at a time if I recall correctly.
It was probably only an hour actually, but as a kid felt like four hours thinking back, lol

Yes, I was. No one could leave the table until the plates were clean. I still have trouble leaving any food on my plate or even scraping leftovers into the garbage. (remember...There are starving children...somewhere). I have had to fight my weight my entire life. I try to think of food as fuel for my bodys' engine. Just like a car , you should put just so much fuel in it for best performance.

Sucks to be you.

Yes... My mother did force me to eat.
She forced me to eat lentils... and daal ... and chick-peas .... and just about any other crap she got from the health-food shop. And I wasn't allowed to leave the table until I'd eaten the whole lot.

I was brought up eating the sort of things you wouldn't even feed to a dog... and I had no choice about it.

Difference is.... I'm underweight.
But then again, who ever heard of getting fat on lentils?

My parents were pretty lenient about many things, but not all. They never forced me to eat and I'm skinny as a rail, but my sister has always been overweight.
