My daughter wants to carve her pumpkin, but I am afraid it will loose its shape by next Tuesday. Can any one tell me if a week is too soon?

A week is too soon. Although, you can spread a thin layer of vaseline over the cut areas to prevent mold growth.

A carved pumpkin should last about a week, if you see it start to get dried out, you can put it in a bucket of water for a little while to get it's shape back

In the Northeast it can last about 2-4 days. To prevent mold from forming, lightly spray the interior w/ a very mild bleach solution.
