Yes, Chlorine is not good for skin. Chlorine is good if it dissolved in water to make the water drinkable. Else, chlorine is used in swimming pools - to keep the water from contaminating. Since the pool is used by many & to maintain the hygine levels chlorine is dissolved in water. So when your skin is exposed to chlorinated water along with sun rays - you develop tan. Excess of exposure of your skin to chlorine will damage the skin. The same happens to hair. So, always apply sunscreen (15 mins before) when u plan to swim and wear a swiming cap to protect your hair.

The chlorine kills off most kinds of harmful bacteria found in raw water but is carefully introduced so that levels are not significant enough to have any unwanted effect on humans. It's not exactly good for you but it's better than having a case of leptospirosis I'm sure.

In water that comes from city water (water treatment plants) it is added to kill the bacteria and viruses. People such as myself do not use water with chlorine we have a water well which our water goes through a natural filtration system (filtered through the dirt)

Chlorination is the process of adding the element chlorine to water as a method of water purification to make it fit for human consumption as drinking water. Water which has been treated with chlorine is effective in preventing the spread of disease.

The chlorination of public drinking supplies was originally met with resistance, as people were concerned about the health effects of the practice. The use of chlorine has greatly reduced the prevalence of waterborne disease as it is effective against almost all bacteria and viruses.

Disinfection by chlorination can be problematic, in some circumstances. Chlorine can react with naturally occurring organic compounds found in the water supply to produce dangerous compounds, known as disinfection byproducts (DBPs). The most common DBPs are trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids. Due to the carcinogenic potential of these compounds, federal regulations require regular monitoring of the concentration of these compounds in the distribution systems of municipal water systems. However, the World Health Organization has stated that the "Risks to health from DBPs are extremely small in comparison with inadequate disinfection."

There are also other concerns regarding chlorine including its volatile nature which causes it to disappear too quickly from the water system, and aesthetic concerns such as taste and odour.

Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad! Don't drink tap water if you can actually smell the chlorine. And don't let anyone tell you that if you let the water 'stand' for an hour it's ok to drink because it's not.

It is in the water to kill all germs and bad bacteria and yes, too much will kill you. It the same product as mustard gas that was used in the war.
The bottles of the gas are always stored in the fresh air and operators must wear protective clothing and a gas mask when handling it. If any escapes the authortities must be told immediately.
