No he doesn't. He wants (and needs) stability in Iraq.
We can’t leave Iraq right now.
The fact is that if we leave before there is a stable government in place, the country will almost certainly fall immediately into a state of civil war. If that were to happen, then their oil production would drop to zero, or at least close enough to zero that it wouldn’t make a significant difference. This would mean that OPEC would have an unrestrained hold on the majority of oil used by the US (the largest consumer of petroleum in the world).
Currently, we have several oil fields within US borders (mostly in Alaska) which are at least as large, and at least two which are considerably larger than the fields under Iraq. However, due to legal constraints from our own “environmental protection laws” we are prohibited from drilling on them. This means that we have, quite literally, placed ourselves at the mercy of the OPEC nations.
If we were to pull out right now, then OPEC would be able to do almost anything to gas prices that they wanted. They have gone on record saying that they intend to take oil to $200 a barrel. This would put gas prices at about $10 a gallon at the pump. Fuel prices that high would put a severe strain on our economy and force price increases on absolutely everything due to increased production and transportation costs. An increase in the minimum wage would be useless because that would force the cost of production even higher, leading to civil unrest here in the states. Politicians hate civil unrest.
We can’t tell the OPEC nations to go take a flying leap because they are ALL Muslim nations. If we did so, the degraded quality of life of the people there would lead to more class-envy against America by your average Muslim and raise the likelihood of terrorist attack on domestic soil.
The cold, hard fact is that without a stable, American-friendly government in Iraq, we would be looking at serious domestic problems within 5 years ourselves. If we were to repeal our laws which prevent own petroleum companies from utilizing our own oil fields we would be able to call our troops home in about 1 year when the first of those fields was ready to produce.
If we were to 1) develop clean, renewable resources such as solar, hydro, thermal, and wind power, and 2) develop our fuel cell technologies, then we would be able to wean off of oil and gradually tell OPEC to jump off of one of their oil derricks.
Until that day, however, you can protest all you want but our fighting men and women aren’t coming home.
Incidentally, I am a veteran of this war.

The only thing Bush wants is a Republican win in November, and he is willing to sacrifice anything, including American troops, to achieve his goals. His recent rhetoric shift, purely for political reasons, is a disgrace to the memories of the brave soldierswho have given their lives in pursuit of Bush's failed foley in Iraq.

He doesn't give a crap about Iraq or their people. He only wants fame and glory for himself. The only reason he wanted us to invade Iraq was so that his name could go into the history books as the president who took down Sadaam.

No, what he wanted was the profit one makes from a war. The cost of oil with nothing done about it is evidence of his total disregard for human life.

No. He wants to "liberate" the Iraqis from their own culture. He's spreading "the American way" and that my friend isn't always good.
Oh! And he wants the oil...

The Iraqi people fail themselves every day.
Every time they look the other way while terror is supported.
Every time they look the other way while an IED is planted.
The problems in Iraq are their creation and their shame, not ours.
