King Solomon had a large ego. But all those wives eventually got the best of the good King Solomon. He started out as a God fearing man and ended up serving other gods with his wives.

The wives and concubines were just considered a part of his wealth. It was a mark of status for a family to claim that their daughter, sister, aunt, or cousin belonged to the king. I can't even imagine that he even spoke with, let alone had marital relations with all 300 wives and 700 concubines!

In King Solomon's time mariage was not an option yet, I am not aware of anything that states that marraige was imposed on anyone. Yet in The Gambia Muslims are allowed more than one wife providing he can support each one individually not in a comune together.

Maybe he could afford these wifes, maybe they wanted him for his money.

Well to be frank at that period of time almost all men had more than one wife especially in middle Eastern Countries. The reason simply being the fact that in percentage wise the number of women in the community was higher than the number of men in the community due to various reasons like battles and so forth. So a man was allowed to take more than one woman as a wife in order to balance the communal divisions. So since the common man had theright to have more than one wife there was no objection for the royalty to have a little extra in his plate. :-)

Because he was a KING and prophet of that time, and in the HOLY BOOKS polygamy is not prohibited. As a KING with the wealth and fortune, he don’t have to worry about the maintenance of wives.

My answer is not a quote, But in the old testiment times, there were not as many people, and a lot of the men died from wars, or were killed as babies, so marrying more then one woman was permitted, because families were poor, and they needed to downsize the family, to be able to feed all the kids, and girls most likely out numered the men. this is just what I think, have not read to see If this is true or not.

In Old Testament times the keeping of many wives was permissible by God. As part of the New Testament of Christ, a man was limited to one wife.

It is a status symbol. He was king and could afford it. There was no law against it natural or spiritual. It was the culture so he lived by the culture.

The bible says that the flesh is never satisfied so you're always going to want more. He wasn't sinning, so he satisfied his flesh in excess because he could.
