I'm 40 wks pregnant and have to see my consult in 1 wks time. if i haven't had the baby by then he's going to induce me and i want to go naturally. Babes head is engaged and my cervix is soft, so its alll ready to go, but i think it might need an little helping hand. I really, really want this to happen naturally so i can enjoy the first part of my labour at home and as comfortable as i possibly can be. will try anything, however bizzare!

Evening primrose oil will soften your cervix, however you're already soft so I wouldn't use it.

Sex is also good - and of course, fun. Your orgasm will stimulate contractions, and the semen has hormones that will also help. I always add the nipple stimulation here - because hey, men love breasts.

I was always too tired to do the walking around. Instead, get an exercise big bouncy ball and bounce on it for awhile. I did this with my last child, bounced for a couple hours and it initiated labor.

DO NOT take black/blue cohosh. There are serious risks with this stuff, including death of baby.

Otherwise, I'm suprised your OB didn't scratch your membranes if you're that ready to go. Usually that'll work no prob. My OB did that, my water broke the next morning.

I personally liked getting induced - with the medicine that they give you, your labor process speeds up and medical professionals are right there, for any need, during all phases of labor. Getting baby out sooner was more important than being miserable at home.

Rubbing evening primrose oil onto the external area of the vagina - where it stretches and the baby comes out of - and also 2 capsules into the cervix, will not only loosen the area up for the baby but give some thinning and relaxation to the cervix. Taking Castor Oil cleans out the bowels and makes way for the birth. Also, having sex with your husband or boyfriend is good - since the sperm contain prostagandin - which helps stimulate labor. Just do not wash it out right afterwards.

Just a little heads up, you do NOT have to be medically induced if you do not want to be!! I was induced on my 8th day overdue and I now wish I'd waited another few days (as miserable as i was in the 100 degree heat!!) to see if my labor would've started naturally...
However, all the old wives tales won't work if baby isn't ready to come out anyways!!
Things I tried (which did not work for me, but have for others i know) include castor oil (only gave me numerous trips to the toilet!), sex (of the orgasmic variety!! it can start off contractions), goldenseal tablets (which aren't reccomended, btw!), i took red raspberry leaf tablets and drank the tea (supposed to help tone the uterus), i ate a spicy mexican dish as well, but nada!....Other remedies I've heard tale of that supposedly worked include eating raw, fresh pineapple (unfortunately, i'm a bit allergic...), having an Indian curry (YUM!!)...the obvious ones: long bumpy car ride, walks in the fresh air...there are many others, but none of them will make baby come out if s/he doesn't want to yet!!

BTW, you should check what way your doc may induce you...will it be straight to Pitocin (that's what I had) as there are other, less invasive ways (as i've found out!), such as a cervical 'sweep', that little pill that is placed into the cervix to help it ripen, a hormone-laden gel, etc...this is your birth! You have the say-so as to what is used assuming everything is going ok!!

As your cervix is already soft, it probably won't be long anyway. But if you want to help things along, keep upright and active (however much you don't feel like it) to give gravity a helping hand, and drag your hubby into the bedroom - both orgasm and semen may nudge you in the right direction. Enjoy it, it may (or may not) be a while before you feel ready for sex again!

Best wishes for a good delivery, and congratulations on the new family member.

okay the most obvious thing is have you had a Membrane sweep that started mine off no problem. midwives usually do it I had my first one on my due date I thought nothing was happening so went back two days later I had dreadfull backache they took one look at me and said I was already in labour and I was infact I was already 5 cm dialated just enjoy the thought that you will soon be holding your little bundle of joy. Also as many times as you think you can't push anymore ......you really can. P.S if you get the chance to labour in water go for it great for the pain relief.
Good Luck

good luck! not really sure if it works but have heard that curry powder can! so go and have a nice hot curry and see what happens! or have sex the semen is supposed to contain natural prostaglandins that help ripen the cervix. Orgasm also releases hormones to assist uterine activity.
I have also heard of having a warm bath, but because baths just make me relax I can't imagine how this may bring on labour.

in case you quite do no longer want to flow by with an induction, if he has no medical clarification why it may be achieved then u can quite reject to it. Induction at your diploma is hassle-loose yet does no longer could be achieved. U could have conceived till now then concept and could no longer be as far alongside as u the two think of u are etc. toddlers can stay in the womb for as much as 40 two weeks (I did)...in simple terms tell him u don't sense soft with being precipitated and you're against the meds they are going to supply u while inducing. If he nevertheless insists then u can take it to the board on the medical institution he supplies you and enable them to renowned what is going on..docs can no longer rigidity u into being precipitated if there isn't any medical clarification for it. If u could u may even swap docs on the final minute, many different docs will take you...get up to your rights as a pregnant lady and demand that they supply u some greater time to purpose and of direction flow into hard artwork on your very own...the toddler isn't waiting if he/she isn't coming down yet... btw...I walked with my pregnancies and it worked wonders in basically a remember of a few days...walk around your block some circumstances....sturdy good fortune!!!

Most people suggest hot/spicy food, but I think that will just induce more toilet time.

Try softening the area around the cervix and uterus with a lukewarm bath, think a sort of lubrication thing... then again, I've heard that sex does the trick, but thats only until the third
tri-mester isnt it?

Sounds like you're well on your way - how exciting! I was a week late with my daughter and tried fresh pineapple! I don't know whether it was that or the threat of being induced but she popped out exactly one week after her due date.

Your baby will come when it's good and ready in the end. The very best of luck and congratulations.

Like everyone is saying castor Oil! I used it but do not use too much put it in a glass of OJ and Chug it down do not get it on your lips, It tastes nasty if you do. also try having sex and let him finish in you. There is somthing in the sperm that helps induce labor. Really my OBGYN told me so! aslo walk around the mall or store closes to the hospital. walking helps open you up. I hope I helped.
