It really depends on what is causing it. People I have known who had cracks in their feet, never exfoliated the skin, which led to a build up of dead skin which in turn started to crack. I don't know how you wash your feet, but if you don't do so already, then the next time you wash your feet and the skin is wet, just try gently scrapping at the skin with your clean fingernails. If you get a load of "gunge" under your nails then you will need to exfoliate the dead skin... you can buy pumice stones for doing this. If this is the problem, then you would need to keep doing this or the dead skin could build up again. Doing this also helps to eliminate bacteria which cause smelly feet.

Foot gets cracked due to excessive moistureness.
1) Avoid spending long time in watery places.
2) If unavoidable wear Unslippery bath room sandals.
3) Clean ur damaged foot well while bathing with good scrubs available in market.
e.g., Natural dry Herbs, or a Foot scrubber.
4) Wear Cotton Socks during active part of the day. So that it absorbs excessive Moistureness.
5) Do regular pedicure at home. Like take a bowl of warm water , soak with lemon and let ur feet to be there for 10 mins. then clean it with a dry cloth.
6) Do not compromise with cleanliness at any cost. As "Cleanliness is next to Godliness"

Well the problem is Dry skin and sometimes also bad foot wear. I always use good shoes, with a very good shoe insole. I have them made for me though. and have not more foot problems, or spinal pain, since if your shoes feel good on your feet, you are a happy person.
My wife some times used to have the same problem. but not since she has had those insoles.
But I would treat her feet to a good soaking, with a foot bath salt solution. then shave the skin with a very good sharp razor like a Mach 3 since you can't cut your self with that. then when all smooth, use a good cream as a massage normally Aloe Vera moisturizer. She felt like walking was a pleasure after that. and I know she wears bad shoes for a while just to have this treatment

Religiously apply cracked heel lotion; try to get the ones made by SCHOLL.
When out, try using heel-covered shoes, so avoid your Birkies for a little while.
Before sleep, apply shea butter liberally on the cracked heels and wear a pair of socks. The affected area would gradually be more softer and smoother.

I wear sandles for 6 months of the year so my feet are really cracked. I've tried Shea Butter and it worked pretty good but I found this product Aura Cacia's Mango butter smelled better and got the same job done! http://www.lilou-organics.com/Scripts/brands_auracacia.asp
The key is to moisturize before you go to bed so then the cream doesn't get all over your floor and has time to soak into your skin instead.

To treat your cracked feet only scrubbing and applying moisture is not enough. you need to take care of them in a proper manner. use baby foot easy pack which acts as exfoliate and removes all dead skin form your feet and give you soft feet like a baby. You can buy this on babyfootindia.in, amazon.in, flipkart and Paytm.

buy a stone and put it in your shower and scrub your heel on it, after a while you'll see the difference. or soak your feet in hot water and salt it makes your skin easier to scrub and then scrub it !! otherwise just go to a beauty parlor and ask for a pedicure, it hurts a little at first and then it tickles more than anything and it makes you relax. but after that you have to keep on scrubbing your feet !! good luck
