With my wife we want to go privately to Hainan to live and work there (not as expats), and we would like to know the cost of flat rental. We dont intend to live on a high but rather average standard. The destination is not fixed yet, but I suppose it will be a relatively big city like Haikou or Sanya. We intend to rent a small apartment (50-60 sqmeter / 550-650 sqfeet) with no luxus but good connection to public transportation. We would prefer a flat with one bedroom and maybe an extra room for guests visiting us.

About 800 yuan ($100 or Euro 80) per month for Haikou, give or take say 20% based on location and quality.

Yes, that would be the average -500 to 800 a month- for something practical and relatively nice. I've been there, I want to live there too :)

the cheapest u could find - is about 400RMB
u should go to an agency if that's the first time u go there - that will make everything easier in the future...
remember to check the water & elec.supply - some are not very good there as i know
