Reviewing some profiles on answers, it became obvious the reason was not to really ask a question, but rather push an agenda or belief. It would be nice to hear many views, and learn from them rather than try to breed hatred.

I think it's because some might have "activist" blood in their veins. They love to get in there and fight for what they think is right. This forum allows them to scream and shout without the expense of traveling to the White House gates.

Others, I think, might be people with domineering personalities. They feel that what they think is what everyone else should think. They have an "It's my way or no way" mind set. This forum allows them to feel like they have their own little dictatorship. If Sadam Husein weren't in jail, he might want to use Yahoo Answers memerships as training tools to allow his top people to test their assertiveness. To get a passing grade, they would have to be so pushy as to get booted off the forum.

And yet others might think it's their duty to save the world. In their mind, they need to save you from hell or eternal damnation, which is where you'll end up if you don't change your religious beliefs to match theirs; or to protect you from abusing your body, which is what you'll be doing if you don't change your eating habits to match theirs.

And then, there are people like you and me who wonder why people are like that. Well, it might be for our own good. Think of how boring the world might be without those other guys.

If you don't feel comfortable in categories where people seem to be engaged in eternal conflict or endless attempts to mold each other in the other's likeness (I know I don't), you may want to consider avoiding those categories. I remember hearing someone say many years ago that he wasn't interested in getting involved in conversations involving politics and religion. I tend to avoid such conversations too. But, when things don't appear quite right, and some of those hot heads are down there at the White House gates screaming and shouting for me (rather than at me) they seem pretty nice.

So, I guess, taking the good with the bad is not so bad, especially when I can easily choose to avoid most of the bad (by avoiding categories on this forum that are notorious for attracting the bad).

In closing, let me add that if the bad get too bad, they can get booted off the forum. You can help make that happen, by reporting them for violating the forum rules. Keep in mind though that some people report others just because of a difference of opinion, rather than for a violation of the rules. While grinding our axes, I think we all need to be conscious of why, and to make sure it's for the right reasons. Don't want to get a "crying wolf" reputation.

Well, now ,how can people not be drawn to what they're passionately interested in? And how can they be expected not to push their own p.o.v.?
I have taken to avoiding the religion/spirituality section because it is often full of grief.

PS: my personal agenda:
promoting breastfeeding for mothers & babies
finding new films to watch.
using yahoo answers to wind down and lighten up a bit.
occassionally dipping in to some serious questions if I think I have some insight .
Telling people with medical problems to go & see their Dr.

I like your personal agenda of hearing lots of views and that's an attraction of Y.A. However that's also the democratic process we try to achieve in the UK, and you are just finding out how many people out there aren't into democratic process!

At least you can see this by reviewing profiles!

We had diversity training at work lets all work together and get on crap. I just dont like to be made to feel wrong for being English and while we are on the subject calling long term Asians and blacks British citizens... If a cat gives birth to a litter of kittens in a barn are they horses now? I find your question hypocritical to be honest then again opinions are like ars*holes we all have one but not everyone wants to hear them :)

I know - it's infuriating.

I just asked a question about how to make a lamb casserole, and some daft idiot called Ms.Feathers decided to lecture me about the evils of eating meat.

Does she seriously think that I'm likely to change the habit of a lifetime jut because some anonymous and rather rude individual on this site tells me to?!

Stupid!

The only agenda I try to push is Equal Rights for Zombies, and that's only because the number of zombie hate crimes in today's society is on the rise and no one is doing anything about it.

Do you have an agenda? Can we be friends? Do you want us to be enemies? Do you hate me? Do you love me? What do you think of me? Have you formed a personal view about me?

I have an open heart and an open mind. What do you say?

Thank you. I'm just here to answer serious questions, but find that they are few and far between. So I usually fill that time answering rhetorical questions that really are only there to make a statement. It drives me nuts, but what can I say. I'm hooked.
