No matter what CD i put in there, the machine ejects it and it reads No Disk on the display. These are regular CDs. I can take the player apart. What do I look for? I don't want to have to throw this away or pay for a technician to look at it. Thanks.

Your laser is most likely out of alignment. Unless you know what you are doing (have at least some electronics background experience), I would avoid trying to fix it yourself.

Really, it would be in your best interest to sell this CD player as-is, give it to a local repair shop for parts, and get a new player that will work with a variety of CD formats.

Prices have never been lower on CD players.

Use a cotton bud to clean the lens of the laser. You can be a bit rough with it but you should avoid alcohol or other stuff-just the dry bud.If the motor is is on its way out and this is the faulty part you can assist it by spinning the disc with your finger(clockwise from the top.If the player works with assistance to the motor it means the brushes are worn. You can fix this by running the motor at a higher voltage than normal (after you take it out) .Try 12 volts for a few seconds. The best idea if you have access to cheap parts is to replace laser and motor .Usually there is no alignment to do.

yeah.clean the ghetto piece of plastic that reads the CD with a q-tip and some water or if you can find it, rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work it is probably the motor that runs the laser that reads you CD. In that case.. Trying to find the same motor without having it professionally repaired is more hassle.

is time to plan ahead and get a new cd player.

i had this problems a few times already.

ps: if you feel something is wrong with the cd player for the 1st time, do not - and i really mean do not use a cleaning cd to clean the cd player as it may make it worst.

good luck!
