When Jesus was asked this question, he answered, and his answer is now what is known as the Lord's Prayer. I agree that we can talk with God in whatever way we would like, but for me, when I go through the Lord's Prayer, and I reflect on each word and add my own commentary mentally, I feel gently disciplined in faith. Sometimes saying it is just not enough, and I have to sing it (alone, in the car, or just mentally) Here it is
Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom and the power
Forever, Amen (some say "forever and ever, Amen)
When you are starting out, these words may seem foreign. It is a good idea to understand each word more fully than you currently do. Look them up, ask people, ask Him, ask ask ask (What does He mean hallowed? What does he mean temptations? What's daily bread?) and treat this as an important study (i.e., cognitive, mental, somehow easier to our Western minds).
This prayer has been a blessing to me in times when I have felt too lost (or too selfish, or too confused, or too tongue tied) to know what to say to God!!

do some research before you actually adopt any religious belief. Question why you believe what you believe. Personally for me, after doing some extensive research, i've accepted Jesus as my savior and am finding more and more proof that the Holy Bible is the only way. Compare it to the Jehovah's witness bible and the Book of Mormom, so you can see for yourself. Study them so you can make your decision. The link below is a good place to start, very informative...

make a quiet time. close the room door. switch off tv, radios, turn off or silentify your phones. then speak to your heavenly father. all humans have this in built capacity. speak out loud but god also hears when you pray silently. remember to pray in the name of Jesus without whose ransom it is impossible to have at one ment with god. keep on praying. and do not expect miracles. act in harmony with your prayer.
do not pray for help not to kill and then buy a gun or lots of ammo !
and have faith. keep on praying. show him you are serious and faithful.
lots of love , DJF

Like a friend, or like He is your father. BUT, He only listens through Jesus Christ.
So, you can talk to Him and then thank Him, in Jesus' Name.
Hope that helps! I talk to Him all the time!
Be blessed.

prayer, praise, worship. Not that hard of a thing to do. Just be honest, and don't think you can fool Him.
