It's good for many people's confidence but it can become addictive and people end up looking like a complete mess. A person must make sure that it's exactly what they want and they should undergo a psychological evaluation first to make sure it's being done for the right reasons. Personally I would consider liposuction if I ever get fat but breast implants feel like there's a rock in there somewhere - yuk.

It depends on a number of factors like who is getting it done, why they are getting it done, and how well the operation goes.
If someone has been in an accident or had a terrible disease which has left them disfigured, then cosmetic surgery is a great tool in getting them back on their feet and hopefully feeling better about themselves. It will, over time, gradually help reinstill some sense of normality.
If, however, a normal, healthy (and often very young) person is wanting cosmetic surgery, then this is not a good thing. Often people like this are suffering from low self esteem and possibly a very distorted body image / view of normality. Cosmetic surgery will not necessarily help them - in fact, if they find it very readily accessible they may go on to have lots of procedures and actually end up looking much worse. Cosmetic surgery candidates who fall in to this category should have long term counselling to look at the reasons behind their low self esteem before going anywhere near the surgeon. Having surgery may not necessarily change their body image at all.
There is now a rising number of people, usually older, wealthy ladies, who are opting for procedures such as a face lift, botox and so on. They do not appear to have the same distorted body image as those mentioned in the previous category, but merely feel uncomfortable with the physical effects of ageing. Many of these women will often suddenly decide one day that they have had enough of their wrinkles/saggy jaw/baggy eyelids and go to a professional surgeon to have their youthful looks restored. If the surgery has gone well, candidates falling into this category tend to be more satisfied wtih their new look and continue to exhibit high self esteem.
I would say that there are some instances when cosmetic surgery is necessary and highly beneficial - usually patients falling into the first category. But for those falling into the second and third categories, I would strongly advise seeking counselling first and having a careful think about WHY they wish to persue such drastic measures.
Also, anyone going for cosmetic surgery should always bear in mind that occassionally things do not go as planned and complications may develop. You should always go to a highly respected surgeon with strong word of mouth recommendation - ask around first. It is not recommended to go abroad or to surgeons who advertise in the back of magazines.
Surgery is a very painful and drastic option which should be carefully considered beforehand - don't take it lightly!

yes. Don't just look at it from a botox and bigger boobs point of view. Cosmetic surgery can help with a cleft pallet, breast reconstruction, help after an accident or burns on your body, broken noses, people that are born or some how acquire a certain "deformity". Cosmetic surgery is much more than just pure vanity and superficial desires.

You mean surgery surely ?
That all depends.
If it makes someone's life more bearable, I see no problem with it. I think that surgically enhanced boobs are ridiculous, but if you have had a mastectomy, it is probably ok.
By practicing cosmetic techniques, surgeons have developed techniques that have helped in medical surgery, so that is a good thing.
I think the people who have cosmetic surgery performed on their pets are sick.

I'd say no. i think it is just encouraging people to be materialistic. And if it goes too far then were just goiung to have a world of Barbie & Kens and thats just not right. I mean it's like Hitlers ideal nation or whatever again isn't it, it's peopl being the same and 'perfect' ( of which there is no such thing)

It depends really. It can be good as it could help the person feel more confident about themselves. But some people go to the extreme just look at The bride of Wildenstein.

If you're unhappy with an aspect of your appearance and you've got the money, why not? So long as you do your research beforehand, pick a reputable surgeon, have realistic expectations and don't assume it will solve all your problems, then fine.

I think so!!If its done correctly and not taken to an extream i think it can really help some people with confidence issues!!People that dont like it or dont think they need it dont have to have any thing to do with it,but people that feel they have something about them that they are unhappy with have a chance to sort it out and be happier with themselves!Which i think is fantastic!! x

it depends on the reason you need it. if it is necessary (for example after an accident that caused facial damages) why not. but ifit is because you want to have lips like angelina jolie or hips like jlo then simply forget about it.
